Our continued growth in mining and metals means that we are looking for a Senior Mine Engineer to join our outstanding Mining and Geology team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of challenging projects with our mining team.
As a Senior Mine Engineer, you will be responsible for mining services, business development, mentoring staff, and implementing corporate guidance.
The successful candidate will be a mining professional with an interest in both business development and professional practice who has relationships with clients in the base metals/precious metals mining market. They will be a dynamic, creative, and innovative mining engineer who can provide high-quality consulting services to our growing base of clients.
The selected candidate could be working either in our Sudbury or Toronto office.
More specifically, you’ll be required to:
- Provide mining engineering and design services for mine studies, such as scoping, prefeasibility, feasibility, detailed design, and NI 43-101/SK-1300 technical reports.
- Coordinate mining engineering projects with the mining team and other engineering disciplines, such as electrical, mechanical, civil/structural, etc.
- Prepare and oversee the preparation of mining engineering drawings.
- Prepare mining equipment specifications and assist with mining equipment procurement.
- Prepare CAPEX and OPEX cost estimates.
- Manage multidisciplinary large projects (technical, people, and/or commercial).
- Determine mine infrastructures and mining services.
- Collaborate with staff assignments within the department.
- Collaborate with other BBA offices for project and task assignments.
- Mentor mining engineering staff.
- Promote cross-selling through new and existing clientele.
- Actively support business development activities through participation in conferences, direct business development activities, and strategic client relationship management.
- Develop business relationships that will favor continued “repeat business.”
- Support the promotion of BBA’s Mining and Metals services, internally and externally.
- Prepare and contribute to proposals and assist with the business development process.
- Author and contribute to study reports.
- Ensure quality service to clientele, aiming to preserve BBA’s professional image.
- Participate in developing and implementing standard work methods.
- Plan, manage, and control technical and commercial risks.
- Ensure effective inter-team, inter-departmental, and inter-office coordination.

Requirements
- Minimum of 15 years of mining experience in operations, engineering, and/or project evaluation.
- Member of PEO or the possibility to become a member of a professional association for engineers.
- High level of proficiency with mining design and planning software packages such as Deswik, MineSight, Datamine, Vulcan, or Surpac.
- Operational and engineering experience with either open pit or underground mining such as cut & fill, bulk mining (VRM), sub-level block caving, and block caving.
- Experience in mine equipment selection, capital cost, and operating cost estimates.
- Knowledge of budgeting, scheduling, and financial modeling.
- Understanding of the various components required to make a mine a successful operation (processing, tailings, infrastructure).
- Passion and aptitude for mentoring, training, and sharing experiences with other engineers.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, written and oral.
- Technical and project management skills.
- Proactive and client-oriented.
- Enthusiasm for prospection and growth of the firm.
- Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Asset: Functionable in a second language (French or Spanish).
- Ability to communicate with colleagues and clients in a professional and technical manner.
- A willingness to travel both domestically and internationally, for varying durations and at times to remote locations.
