About the Role

We are looking for a Co-op student to support Brookfield Renewable’s Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) team for the Summer term. In this opportunity, the student will work with Brookfield Renewable’s corporate head office to drive improved ESG performance at our operating businesses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the ESG central team to support the corporation and our portfolio businesses ESG strategy;
  • Compile ESG data including the annual GHG inventory through co-ordination with operating businesses;
  • Track and report on ESG performance by evaluating Key Performance Indicators;
  • Support various internal ESG working groups to address ESG issues and improve ESG performance;
  • Co-ordinate with the portfolio businesses to communicate required sustainability indicators in line with the ESG key performance indicators to achieve specified outcomes;
  • Research and write reports on best practices, technology, policy, and regulatory aspects of sustainability topics.

Knowledge Required

  • Minimum 2 years completed of a degree related to the environment, with a preference for sustainability and financial management, environmental engineering, or environmental policy.
  • Understanding of sustainability trends, and best practice including in decarbonization, human rights, biodiversity, water and circularity.
  • Outstanding communication, research and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and demonstrates initiative.
  • 4 months experience working in a technical environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of excel (pivot tables, look up lists, graphing).
  • Experience in estimating scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions, and corporate ESG disclosures.
  • Knowledge of ESG disclosure frameworks (GHG Protocol, CDP, TCFD, GRI and SASB).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
