Job Overview
The Senior Accounting Analyst, Corporate Investments, will be responsible for routine journal entries, GL maintenance, and assistance with taxation matters for the Corporate Investments Division. The incumbent will also support the Manager, Finance and the Director, Finance in the preparation of hedge documentation and effectiveness, and the day-to-day administration of FirstOntario's hedge accounting program.

Role

  • Prepare monthly accounting entries and reconciliations for the Corporate Investments Division
  • Complete transactional accounting entries for the division as they occur
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reporting for the Corporate Investments Division
  • Assist with the preparation of hedge documentation and hedge effectiveness testing
  • Maintain a listing of outstanding hedging instruments and hedge relationships and ensure all required testing and documentation is completed on a quarterly basis
  • Support the Manager, Finance in the preparation of accounting entries and reconciliations for FirstOntario's derivatives portfolio, including interest rate swaps, bond forwards, and foreign exchange derivatives
  • Prepare quarterly financial statements for the Division's joint venture partners and subsidiaries
  • Work with the Treasury department and the Corporate Investments Division to monitor foreign exchange exposure in the alternative investments portfolio and project future foreign exchange cash flows
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of corporate tax returns and indirect tax filings for FirstOntario's subsidiaries and joint ventures
  • Oversee intercompany receivables and invoicing with subsidiaries
  • Assist with other projects as required

Required Skills

  • Post-secondary degree in accounting, finance or business and have a CPA or CFA designation
  • 1 - 3 years' experience in a similar role
  • Experience with IFRS preferred
  • Experience performing complex accounting in the areas of financial instruments, consolidations, hedge accounting, derivatives, and taxation is an asset
  • Experience in corporate taxation is a plus
  • Expert user of Excel and other Microsoft Office products
  • Proficient with data query/analysis tools
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Self-starter and proactive problem solver
  • Quick to respond to requests for service from all clients
  • Openly share knowledge with the team and inspire them
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity and be trustworthy
  • Possess superior interpersonal skills
