Southeast Collegiate is the only school of its kind in all of Canada! It serves as a campus to First Nations students during the school year – educating students in a beautiful school facility and providing housing in the adjoining lodge.

Southeast Collegiate is seeking an individual with STRONG PRESENTATION SKILLS who enjoys public speaking and teaching others.

Mental Health Educator to join our Mental Health Department for the September 2024 to June 2025 school year.

Job Overview
The Mental Health Educator is primarily responsible for providing mental health education & prevention to students via classroom presentations and workshops occasionally after school (during 11-7 pm shift).

The role involves designing and facilitating workshops, developing educational materials. This person will work in collaboration with counseling services, faculty, and student organizations to promote student well-being, resilience, and mental health awareness.

Department: Mental Health

Reports to: Mental Health Director

Employment: Full-Time TERM (Sept.- June - 10 months, covering parental leave)

Possibility of extending based on performance & operational needs.

Hours: 8:30-4:30 Wednesday to Friday, 11:00-7:00 pm Monday & Tuesday (evening shift could be negotiable for right candidate)

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Mental Health Education:
    • Develops and delivers workshops and seminars on topics related to mental health (stress management, anxiety, depression, mindfulness, etc.).
    • Creates educational materials (handouts, brochures, and online resources) aimed at enhancing students' mental health literacy.
    • Collaborates with faculty and Administration to integrate mental health education into broader student wellness initiatives.
    • Maintains calm and compassionate communication ensuring students feel supported and safe.
  2. Collaboration and Outreach:
    • Collaborate closely with the Mental Health team.
    • Partner with faculty, staff, and student organizations to foster a supportive mental health environment at SEC.
    • Promote and coordinate mental health awareness events, campaigns, and activities.
  3. Assessment and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records (stats).
    • Analyze trends in student mental health needs and provide recommendations for program improvements.
    • Contribute to ongoing evaluations of mental health services and educational programming on campus.

Qualifications:

  1. Education:
    • Post-secondary education in Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, Education, or similar field of study.
    • Presentation skills
    • Mental Health Training, NVCI, CPR or willingness to become certified; Culturally competent; trauma-informed care.
  2. Experience:
    • STRONG PRESENTATION SKILLS to both small and large groups.
    • Experience working with Indigenous youth.
    • 2+ years of experience in mental health education.
    • Experience working in an educational environment is an asset.
  3. Skills:
    • Utilization of PowerPoint & Google Suite.
    • Excellent communication and public speaking skills for delivering educational content to groups.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
    • Knowledge of mental health challenges faced by youth, including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and addictions.
    • Ability to stay calm under pressure and manage crisis situations effectively.
    • Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude.
    • Cultural sensitivity, respect, and a commitment to fostering inclusive practices in the workplace.
  4. Required:
    • Clear Current Child Abuse Registry and Criminal Record Check.

Pay: $28.37-$33.60 per hour
