EdSource is looking for a passionate and resourceful reporter who understands how to write with impact in mind and can place local education challenges within a state and national context. As a reporter based in East Bay, the successful candidate will be expected to report on the West Contra Costa Unified School District and will report on important issues in the district and elsewhere as required, especially those that have statewide significance. We will rely on the reporter to develop sources, pitch story ideas and publish several pieces each month.
Founded in 1977, EdSource is an award-winning independent, nonprofit organization with a long track record of reporting on important education issues. While its primary focus is on California, EdSource covers issues within a national context. Stories are published online, in daily email newsletters, and through partnerships with other news organizations.
EdSource’s main office is in Oakland, and the reporter for this position must live in the East Bay.

EdSource offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes a range of medical plans, a retirement savings plan, generous vacation leave and paid holidays, as well as professional development opportunities. The hiring range for this position is $60,000 – $85,000. Higher compensation may be available for someone with advanced skills and/or experience. Part-time positions will also be considered.
