S&C is continuing to grow. Where do you come in? We are looking for a talented Material Handler - Basic, for the Day Shift, who has a passion for innovation in their field of expertise, enjoys working as part of a team, and is committed to helping us become a leader in our industry.

Job Summary:
The Material Handler – Basic is responsible for transporting mostly finished goods around the manufacturing plant. This position operates a tugger while they complete their S&C-required forklift training and is responsible for checking a number of items, including cargo specifications and confirming the safety and security of packaging.

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Work Location: 90 Belfield Road, Etobicoke M9W 1G4

Shift: Day shift is 40hrs/wk (Monday - Friday; 6:30 am - 3pm)

As a Material Handler, you will:

  1. Use a tugger and overhead crane to transport products and parts inside of the manufacturing facility. Review job orders and internal requests to determine the appropriate location and drop-off procedure.
  2. Confirm that goods have been properly packaged and secured prior to transporting them.
  3. Secure goods with various tie-downs and packing materials to ensure products are delivered safely and without damage.
  4. Complete S&C Forklift certification program, including any required testing and certification hours needed to pass the program.
  5. Use measurement tools to confirm the specifications of cargo.
  6. Review work orders and part drawings to accurately determine which parts and materials are needed for specific jobs and areas.
  7. Utilize internal applications to determine material handling needs and respond to requests.
  8. Meet department targets and consistently adhere to quality and safety standards.
  9. Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.
  10. Work with departmental mentors to gain and apply feedback in pursuit of improved work quality.
  11. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Who are we looking for? Someone who:

  1. 1+ years of demonstrated experience in a material handling or related role within a manufacturing environment.
  2. 1+ years of driving a forklift with a safe driving record.
  3. Ability to operate an electric forklift for indoor use.
  4. Good attention to detail, with the ability to determine accurate order quantities and specifications consistently.
  5. Ability to work independently and meet requirements of assigned handling requests.
  6. Good communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to articulate information efficiently and effectively to team members in a variety of production support departments.
  7. Capable of embracing diversity and equity to ensure they contribute to a respectful and inclusive workplace.
  8. Basic computer skills with the ability to review and respond to requests via internal applications.
  9. Basic math skills with the ability to calculate quantities and weights.
  10. Good interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to understand and complete requests given by team members inside and outside of the department.
  11. Ability to use basic hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments such as scales and calipers.
  12. Ability and willingness to follow Health Safety & Environment procedures accurately, reporting concerns promptly to the safety action team.
  13. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement manufacturing principles.
