Position:
As an Apprentice Carpenter, you’ll be working closely with a lead carpenter, supporting developments in commercial, residential, and other construction projects. The work will include drywall installation and repairs, installing various floor coverings, ceilings, paneling, trim, and framing. You must be able to use a wide variety of hand and power tools and maintain them in good, safe working order.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake proper training on the safe use of hand tools and power equipment.
- Learn the ropes from foundation to framing, and everything in between.
- Assist other trades on-site as needed. Assist lead carpenters on site.
- Build experience in reading and interpreting basic blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials.
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems.
- Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding, and hardware.
- Maintain, repair, and renovate residences and wooden structures in various establishments.
Requirements:
- Minimum 0.5 years of experience as a Junior Carpenter, or 1 year of skilled labour in residential or non-residential construction.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods and lifting loads up to 90lbs).
- Interest in developing carpentry skills.
- Strong customer service and front-facing skills.
- Basic knowledge of all aspects of Carpentry.
- Comfortable with heights and busy, high-pressure job sites.
- Aptitude in math.
- Proficiency in using carpentry tools and equipment.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and physical condition.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
