Your Opportunity
As an Electrical Engineer in our Dartmouth office, you will work independently on small and average sized projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all electrical engineered systems or products for a project and assuring work is reviewed for overall technical accuracy.
- Collaborate in person or remotely with team members, other Stantec disciplines, and clients to achieve project success, acting as a project team member or a project leader.
- Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Utilize BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of building’s electrical systems and provide markups for junior engineers/designers.
- Prepare and revise documentation in various electrical phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.
- Assist upper level staff with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
- Lead the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
- Perform and oversee the development of calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on projects.
- Conduct field reviews of projects during construction to verify conformance with construction documents and provide letters of professional assurance to the applicable authorities having jurisdiction.
- Works on multiple projects.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- The ideal candidate possesses leadership and business development qualities to grow the engineering business and staff count in the office over the next 3-5 years.
- Strong leadership skills, with proven ability to lead project tasks and activities.
- Must be self-motivated, team oriented, efficient, and a good communicator.
- Be comfortable in a client-facing position and in the field.
- Strong collaborative skills while working with a single or multi-discipline team.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills. Bilingual (English and French) would be a major asset.
- Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Intermediate or strong project management skills.
- Ability to follow Stantec's quality control guidelines.
- Understanding the importance of complying with Stantec's Employee Health and Safety (EH&S) program, with a focus on safety in the field.
- Desire to be mentored by Senior staff and to adapt to feedback as required.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel). Experience in Revit, and AutoCAD would be an asset.
- Experience in the industrial/commercial/institutional electrical design industry including:
- Electrical distribution design (service design, feeder calculations, over-current protection, load analysis).
- Communications (primarily horizontal level design).
- Life Safety (fire alarm systems, exit and emergency lighting).
- Lighting (indoor and outdoor).
Education and Experience
- An Electrical Engineering Degree from an accredited university.
- Eligibility for registration as a professional engineer in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick.
- Minimum of 8 years of applicable experience is required.
- Experience creating tender document packages, including detailed drawings and specifications is required.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
