The Economic Development Specialist plays a key role in fostering and sustaining business relationships across private, public, and non-profit sectors to drive economic growth in Beaumont. By supporting local business expansion, attracting new investments, and nurturing partnerships, the Specialist directly contributes to increasing the non-residential tax base and helping Beaumont achieve its financial sustainability goals.


A Glimpse into What YOU’RE Responsible for:
  • Business Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, potential investors, and community stakeholders to support economic development objectives. Represent the City at business events and facilitate communication with internal departments to streamline business processes.
  • Business Retention & Expansion (BRE) Program Support: Conduct outreach to local businesses to identify growth opportunities and address concerns. Manage the business licensing process, support process improvements, and maintain accurate records to enhance engagement.
  • Business Support, Events, and Networking Initiatives: Organize and support community events, business workshops, and networking forums that foster growth. Engage in outreach to share resources, connect businesses with industry experts, and strengthen the local business ecosystem.
  • Strategic Partnership Development: Contribute to strategic partnerships aligned with Beaumont’s economic goals by leveraging partner strengths and creating mutual benefits. Maintain a working knowledge of municipal policies and relevant legislative guidelines.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Collaborate with City departments on corporate sponsorship and advertising initiatives, ensuring alignment with community messaging and City objectives.
  • Grant & Funding Programs: Track and communicate grant opportunities that support business growth and attract new investments to the community.
  • Health & Safety: Ensure adherence to legislative regulations, safety protocols, and respectful workplace standards.
What YOU Bring:
  • Relationship-Building Skills: Proven ability to foster and maintain strong connections with businesses, investors, and community partners to support mutual growth.
  • Strategic Thinking: Expertise in identifying growth opportunities, understanding business operations, and developing actionable strategies that align with economic goals.
  • Project Management Experience: Demonstrated success in managing multiple priorities and completing projects effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong Communication & Presentation Abilities: Skilled in public speaking, facilitating workshops, and representing organizations at community and business events.
  • Analytical & Research Skills: Experience conducting research, jurisdictional scans, and data analysis to inform economic development strategies and business support initiatives.
  • Political Acumen & Problem Solving: Awareness of political sensitivities, with excellent negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills to navigate complex situations.
  • Passion for Economic Development: A genuine interest in contributing to the success of Beaumont’s business community and supporting sustainable economic growth.
Education & Experience
  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Business Administration, Economic Development, Commerce, Marketing, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in economic development or a directly related field, with a focus on supporting local businesses, growth opportunities, and investment attraction.
  • Proven experience in building and maintaining professional relationships, project management, and networking in community or business settings.
  • Background in strategic planning, negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution, ideally within a municipal or economic development context.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

  • A salary range of $83,447.00 - $108,872.40 per annum (based on experience and qualifications)
