MEGlobal Canada ULC Alberta Regulatory Specialist

MEGlobal Canada ULC is seeking a talented individual for the role of Regulatory Specialist. The successful candidate may work from either manufacturing facility located at our Prentiss site, near Red Deer, Alberta, our site located outside Fort Saskatchewan, or our Sherwood Park office. The incumbent must have an in-depth understanding of Federal and Provincial environmental regulations to ensure proper interpretation and guidance to the organization. He/she will lead preparation of regulatory reports, documents and/or submissions; liaise with internal and external stakeholders and regulatory bodies and play a key role in developing and/or maintaining internal management systems, processes, and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and excellence for modern petrochemical facilities in Alberta.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Focus on Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA) legislation.
  2. Manage existing and new Alberta and Canadian environmental legislation and regulations applicable to our operations in Alberta, interpret the requirements, and implement and maintain systems to ensure compliance.
  3. Collect, validate, and input data, complete emissions calculations, and write reports for internal and external compliance reporting, with a focus on air (e.g. GHG reporting) and water (e.g. industrial wastewater reporting).
  4. Evaluate impact of legislative/regulatory changes on MEGlobal sites/locations, as appropriate.
  5. Participate in the parent company’s (EQUATE Petrochemical) global regulator network with focus on ESG reporting.
  6. Evaluate plant changes according to regulatory requirements.
  7. Guardian of the regulatory compliance management system using tools like ENHESA.
  8. Establish, maintain, and improve environmental regulatory work processes and documentation.
  9. Participate in and provide data for EHS&S audits.
  10. Additional responsibilities will be considered based on the successful candidate’s experience and on needs to balance the workload within EHS&S Regulatory team.

  3. Strong technical and mathematical skills, such as emissions calculations.
  4. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
  5. Excellent communication skills.
  6. Able to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  7. Fluent in written and spoken English.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (i.e. Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science etc.)
  2. Demonstrated understanding of environmental regulations.
  3. Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
