Your Opportunity

At Stantec our offices offer a vibrant and dynamic environment with excellent opportunities for professional growth. As a member of the Fredericton, NB structural team, the ideal candidate will work in the Fredericton, NB, or Dartmouth, NS, office.

The successful candidate will work with general supervision and direction on average sized projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior Engineer/Designer. They will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards/practices.

Your Key Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for projects of average complexity/size.
  2. Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all structural components relating to various structural systems.
  3. Performs preliminary and detailed structural analysis and design for various heavy industrial and power generation structures.
  4. Engages in the development of a design through engineering calculations, sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  5. Utilizes technologies in development of three-dimensional models of structural systems.
  6. Prepares and revises documentation in various structural phases.
  7. Opportunities to lead project coordination meetings.
  8. Active participant in client project meetings, value analysis and basic cost estimating.
  9. Support senior staff with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
  10. Leads the preparation and coordination of project specifications with construction documents.
  11. Performs and oversees the performance of calculations using company standard software.
  12. Participates in constructability review.
  13. Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
  14. Supports the development of new standards and specifications for the structural group.
  15. Opportunities to work on multiple, diverse projects.
  16. Mentoring and professional development of other personnel as needed.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  1. Strong communication, coordination, and time management skills.
  2. Strong understanding and knowledge of engineering fundamentals and first principles.
  3. Requisite knowledge and application of structural design codes.
  4. General understanding of all phases of project document production.
  5. Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting.
  6. Strong knowledge of structural systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  7. Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness.
  8. Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts.
  9. Experience with industry standard structural analysis software suites.
  10. Knowledge of mathematical computational tools.
  11. Knowledge of and ability to use standard computer applications.
  12. Willingness to travel for project work.

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering.
  2. Licensed Professional Engineer in a Canadian province.
  3. Minimum of 4 years of experience.
  4. Graduate degree(s) and/or successful completion of the NCEES PE Exam are highly valued.
