The Opportunity
Keyano College, School of University Studies is seeking qualified Full Time Instructor on Term to teach computer science courses in person. This position will end on or before June 30, 2026. Keyano College's Computer Systems Technology program provides comprehensive training in computer hardware, software, and networking, preparing students for careers in the rapidly evolving field of information technology. With a focus on practical skills and industry-relevant certifications, graduates are equipped to excel in diverse roles ranging from systems administration to cybersecurity. Potential courses for the ideal candidates to be teaching:
- Computer Organization and Architecture
- Algorithms
- Web-based Internet Technology
- Practical Programming Methodology
- Computer graphics
- File and Database Management
Other computer systems technology courses may also be part of the teaching portfolio.
Note: this is not a remote or hybrid work opportunity; you will be required to work on campus and relocate to Fort McMurray, AB. Preference will be given to candidates currently living in Fort McMurray.
Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Primarily teach students in related courses across the curriculum
- Maintain office hours and student mentorship/engagement
- Maintain professional competence and knowledge of subject matter
- Develop/revise/update courses, including consulting with the Chair, Program Coordinator, faculty, advisory committees, and potential employers and students.
- Engage in program development, assisting with the program coordinators, and participating in committee work in support of the department, division, or College.
- Be responsible for developing teaching materials for individualized and group instruction, and incorporate technology into the learning process, where applicable.
- Carry out regularly scheduled instruction, ensuring students are aware of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques, as well as recruitment, tutoring, and academic counseling of students.
- Teaching responsibilities may include theory and/or lab. This may involve evenings and weekends on occasion which will be scheduled in advance.
Qualifications
- Minimum Master of Computer Science.
- Minimum of 5 years' post-secondary teaching experience
- Proficient with the use of learning technologies
- Excellent classroom management and instructional skills
- Demonstrated excellent communication, planning, time management, and organizational skills
- Dependable and resourceful team member with a proven track record of managing multiple competing priorities with a calm professional approach
- Commitment to inclusion and diversity
