Position Scope
As a Senior Tax Accountant at North American Construction Group, you'll play a pivotal role in managing the annual tax compliance program across our diverse range of entities. Reporting directly to the Tax Manager, you'll primarily focus on overseeing the Canadian tax program while providing valuable support for US and Australian compliance matters. This dynamic role offers opportunities for professional growth, allowing you to expand your expertise in Canadian, US and Australian tax regulations.
This is a temporary 16 month contract with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the preparation and consolidation of tax provision schedules, ensuring precision and compliance.
- Prepare tax provisions, reconciliations, and disclosures for financial reporting purposes.
- Manage the preparation and filing of tax returns in all jurisdictions where the company operates.
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with tax laws and regulations, advising management on potential impacts.
- Oversee Canadian tax compliance, managing various returns and elections for relevant entities.
- Conduct thorough research on federal, provincial, and local taxation issues, offering strategic tax recommendations.
- Analyze tax laws and advise on various corporate tax matters.
- Stay abreast of legislative changes, implementing necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
- Act as a liaison with federal, provincial, and provincial authorities to fulfill compliance requirements.
- Administer various tax compliance requirements, including self-assessment tax determination.
- Collaborate with international finance teams, reviewing financial statements and addressing tax inquiries.
- Strategize and schedule tax payments to meet regulatory deadlines.
- Monitor tax correspondences and reconcile various return balances.
- Manage business number registrations and updates with relevant authorities.
- Handle external tax audits, inquiries, and controversies, ensuring favorable outcomes.
- Provide support for US and Australian tax compliance efforts.
- Analyze tax information to identify potential areas for savings.
- Collaborate with third-party tax recovery firms and lead special projects as needed.
- Provide tax analysis and advice on transactions and business operations, including preparing tax position memos.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess tax planning relating to acquisitions, mergers, and new business activities.
- Manage transfer pricing compliance requirements across jurisdictions.
- Assist in the intercompany dividends and distributions process, to ensure compliance with tax requirements and offer advice on timing and amounts to minimize taxable amounts.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Offer coaching and training on tax-related matters to other departments.
- Assist the FP&A team with annual tax and transfer pricing budgeting.
- Forecast and process income and capital tax installments accurately.
- Implement tax compliance controls and procedures to enhance the company's tax risk management framework.
- Ensure effective governance and controls are in place, establishing procedures driven by organizational growth.
- Ensure compliance with SOX regulations and assist with internal control testing.
Qualifications
What Makes You the ONE
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Finance.
- Possession of an accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA).
- Progress towards completion of the In-Depth Tax Program is preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and theory.
- Proficient research capabilities to navigate complex tax regulations and laws.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adhere to strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, coupled with excellent interpersonal abilities, focusing on delivering high-quality customer service.
- Self-motivated and capable of working autonomously, with minimal supervision, to achieve objectives.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel for accurate data analysis and reporting.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work well with individuals at all levels within the organization and external stakeholders, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and achieving desired outcomes.
