Who are we looking for?

Our EDO (Engineering Design Organization) is looking for an Intermediate Utilities Designer who is ready to join our growing Canadian Operations within the Transportation Group. This role can be based out of one of our Southern Ontario offices: Whitby, Waterloo, Mississauga, Markham, Kingston or St. Catharines.

The Transportation Group within GHD Canada works with Provincial, Regional, and local municipal transportation agencies, as well as select contracting partners, on large scale projects across the whole Transportation spectrum of highways, roads and bridges, transit and multi-modal infrastructure, and transportation planning.

Responsibilities:

  • This role is intended for Intermediate Civil/Utilities Designers looking to continue their careers in the design of civil and utility infrastructure for municipalities, Metrolinx, and other major clients.
  • This role is also suitable for an experienced designer who is looking to advance their career and take a lead role in design, and who embraces the new technologies and software in modern engineering design delivery.
  • Design experience in relocation of municipal and private third party utilities on Civil infrastructure projects.
  • Production of conceptual and detailed design models and related utility relocation drawing sets for transit facilities and multi-modal corridors.
  • Large and small team collaboration. Communication with other disciplines (CAD/BIM, structural, architectural, geotechnical, etc.), sub-consultants, municipalities, utility companies, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience and working knowledge of advanced Civil 3D features and work flows, such as pipe and pressure network design and corridor modelling.
  • Good understanding of Ontario design standards (i.e. OPSS), and client specific standards and requirements (i.e. Metrolinx).
  • 3+ years' experience in utility design and/or civil design.
  • P.Eng or C.E.T. designation or ability to obtain is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering.
  • Proficiency with civil and utility modelling and drafting assignments in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, MicrosStation/InRoads.
  • Demonstrable experience in civil and utility design delivery for larger, multi-discipline projects with a focus on transit facilities and multi-modal corridors.
  • Detailed understanding of Metrolinx, local municipality (or equivalent) and private utility companies' codes and standards is an asset.
  • Experience working in an integrated 3D environment using a Common Data Environment for information exchange is an asset.
  • Analytical and decision making skills required for resolving issues and making recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills, problem solving skills and presentation skills.
  • Able to work in a multi-disciplinary, fast-paced environment.

What you will bring to the team:
