The Community Safety Initiatives unit provides leadership and oversight of Alberta Justice's community justice programs and transformative initiatives.

Reporting to the Manager of Community Justice Programs, the Community and Program Liaison is a justice system generalist, versed in all areas of law (Civil, Criminal, and Family), and supports community justice projects that span the entire justice system. The incumbent will be involved in the department’s administration of community justice programs, including specialized courts, restorative justice, and youth justice committees.

Responsibilities

  • Administration of Existing Community Justice Programs.
  • Support Development of New Community Justice Programs.
  • Implement Policy and Strategy for Community Justice Programs.
  • Support Transformative Justice Initiatives.
  • Collaboration with Internal and External Stakeholders.
  • Preparation of briefing material and respond to Action Requests.
  • Monitor data and statistics from community justice programs.
  • Provide support in the development and administration for the provincial RJ program.
  • Represent the Branch on various committees.
  • Communication with stakeholders to ensure adherence to principles and policies.
  • Knowledge and application of statistical and research methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture, beliefs, and practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of grant/contract management.
  • Working knowledge of the criminal justice system and related legislation.
  • Working knowledge of provincial and federal legislation related to policing.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in social sciences or related areas and four (4) years of relevant experience is required. Equivalencies may be considered: Master and a minimum one (1) year related experience, Diploma and a minimum of six (6) years related experience, Certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years related experience, no education and a minimum of eight (8) years related experience.

Hours of work: Monday – Friday, 8:15 am - 4:30 pm (36.25/week)
Positions currently available: One temporary salaried position with an expected 18-month term.
