We are looking for a Manufacturing Estimator for our Peterborough, Ontario site. BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Manufacturing Estimator is responsible for the estimating and execution of a broad range of manufacturing projects from commercial and custom manufactured parts to sophisticated nuclear equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for a wide scope of custom-engineered manufacturing projects including electro-mechanical automation, tooling, welded fabrications, machining, instrumentation and control systems, field services, testing.
- Quickly assess high-level customer or engineering requirements to prepare budgetary estimates.
- Lead proposal creation activity, coordinate and solicit inputs for all required stakeholders including manufacturing, engineering, quality, finance, commercial, etc.
- Assess manufacturability of complex scope, provide feedback to design and customers to assist with evolution of budgetary proposals to firm supply.
- Create detailed manufacturing plans including make/buy decisions, manufacturing BOMs and purchase requisitions to solicit detailed vendor pricing and proposals.
- Support project teams who are executing jobs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide detailed schedule plans and inputs to support proposals, including task planning to optimize lead times.
- Analyze estimates vs. actual execution to drive continuous improvement efforts.
- Develop new estimating tools and strategies to improve estimate turn-around, accuracy, and effort.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- College/University graduate in an Engineering discipline or Journeyman (4+ years) machinist, toolmaker, assembler, technician with 10+ years of manufacturing experience.
- 5+ years of cost estimating experience in a complex, custom-engineered equipment discipline.
- Knowledge and experience with high tolerance machining, fitting/welding, custom and First of a kind assembly.
- Knowledge and experience with planning, assembly and testing of complex mechanical and electromechanical equipment.
- Knowledge and experience with instrumentation and control equipment, PLCs, automation, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics.
- Strong knowledge and experience with metrology, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances (GD&T), blue print reading.
- High level of proficiency with data analysis and management including spreadsheet tools, MRP systems, etc.
- Technical writing experience including customer proposals, procedures, technical reports.
- Experience working with ASME Code Boiler and Pressure Vessels codes and standards, ASME and ASTM material specifications including rules for identification and traceability of materials, manufacturing processes, NDE, testing etc.
- Knowledge of common non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques.
- Very strong communication and interpersonal skills.
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
- Manufacturing planning experience in custom engineered equipment industry.
- Experience with Primavera (P6) project scheduling software.
- Experience in the nuclear industry.
The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $82,000 and $124,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
