Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship, the Skilled Trades Shop Technician supports students and faculty with a safe and effective learning environment. The incumbent orders materials for program professors, works with full-time technicians and faculty to organize labs within the Carpentry, Manufacturing, Welding, and Building Sciences programs, maintains inventory, prepares instructional shop spaces for a variety of functions, and builds items for instructional shops as well as for program professors.

Duties and Responsibilities

Organize instructional shops and maintain inventory
Order materials for program professors
Prepare instructional shops for a variety of functions
Build items for post-secondary programs related to carpentry, manufacturing, and building sciences as well as for program professors
Maintain teaching assets in good repair
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Completion of a two (2) year post-secondary education program or equivalency
Provincial Trades Certification in any of the following trades: millwright, machinist, or carpenter
Minimum of five (5) years work experience in fields related to the trade certifications
Ability to work safely with handheld and power tools building a variety of items
Experience with inventory management considered an asset
Ability to work independently and in a team setting
