Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship, the Skilled Trades Shop Technician supports students and faculty with a safe and effective learning environment. The incumbent orders materials for program professors, works with full-time technicians and faculty to organize labs within the Carpentry, Manufacturing, Welding, and Building Sciences programs, maintains inventory, prepares instructional shop spaces for a variety of functions, and builds items for instructional shops as well as for program professors.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize instructional shops and maintain inventory
  • Order materials for program professors
  • Prepare instructional shops for a variety of functions
  • Build items for post-secondary programs related to carpentry, manufacturing, and building sciences as well as for program professors
  • Maintain teaching assets in good repair
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a two (2) year post-secondary education program or equivalency
  • Provincial Trades Certification in any of the following trades: millwright, machinist, or carpenter
  • Minimum of five (5) years work experience in fields related to the trade certifications
  • Ability to work safely with handheld and power tools building a variety of items
  • Experience with inventory management considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
