Building and Technical Standards of the Ministry of Government Relations is looking for an individual experienced in construction codes and technical safety standards. Motivated to contribute to the development, adoption, implementation, administration, and enforcement of construction codes and standards in Saskatchewan.
Our ideal candidate will be self-motivated, positive, resourceful, inquisitive, thorough, and experienced in the use and application of construction codes and standards, able to communicate with stakeholders and the public effectively and deliver an understanding of the legislative framework and how codes and standards apply to building construction in Saskatchewan.
Reporting to the Chief Codes Administrator, the successful candidate will:
- Provide solutions to stakeholders about the application of construction codes in Saskatchewan including the legislative framework that applies the five principles to owners, local authorities, building and fire officials, industry, and the Government of Saskatchewan;
- Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver an effective regulatory model for compliance with construction codes;
- Develop advisories, guides, workshops, and presentations on the application of construction codes;
- Review building official training and licensing applications for approval;
- Review local authorities' building bylaws submitted as drafts or for Ministerial approval and prepare draft letters with the results of the review for the Chief Codes Administrator's approval;
- Respond to inquiries from the public regarding The Construction Codes Act, The Building Code Regulations, The EC Regulations, the National Codes, and referenced standards;
- Participate and/or represent Building and Technical Standards in various organizations;
- Deliver presentations and training to stakeholders;
- Provide technical and administrative support to the Saskatchewan Construction Standards Appeal Board;
- Bring value-added support and participation in all Building and Technical Standards projects.
Typically, the knowledge and experience required to achieve the above is obtained through:
- Several years of experience and competency in the use and application of construction codes and technical safety standards;
- Registered with or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan and licensed to practice professional engineering;
- Registered with or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Association of Architects and licensed as an architect in Saskatchewan; or
- An architectural technologist or equivalent registered with or eligible to be licensed by Technology Professionals Saskatchewan;
- Supplemented with:
- A building official licence with local authority, industry, or government experience;
- Training in the use and application of energy codes; or
- Any combination of experience, competency, and credentials noted above.
