Responsibilities:

1. Determine type of glass, frames and material required
2. Measure, mark and cut glass
3. Position and secure panes in frame
4. Assemble and install prefabricated glass, mirrors or glass products
5. Install door, window and other hardware
6. Prepare shop drawings
7. Repair glass doors and other glass structures
8. Assemble, erect and dismantle scaffolding, rigging and hoisting equipment
9. Supervise other workers
10. Transport cases of glass
11. Estimate costs and materials
12. Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications
13. Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages

Experience and Specialization:

Type of Glass / Materials
Acrylic plexiglass, Float glass, Mirrors, Sealed units

Frame Fabrication and Installation:
Curtain wall (stock length material), Curtain wall (prefabricated material)

Glass Cutting Equipment and Techniques:
Cutting wheels, Self-lubricating cutters, Cut glass plate manually (straight cuts), Cut glass plate free-hand (curved cuts), Edge glass plates, Laminate glass

Installation Specialization:
Skylights and slope glazed installations, Curtain walls, Aluminum storefronts, barrel vaults, solariums, commercial window systems, Heat resistant ceramics, Shower doors and tub enclosures

Equipment:
Carbide and diamond bits

Education:
Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Experience:
2 years to less than 3 years
