Parts Technician

Location: Regina (100% in the office)

Number of positions: Multiple

Please note: Effective September 01, 2023, the salary range for this role has been adjusted to $57,205 - $60,790.

Due to current market demands, a temporary market salary supplement is being offered in addition to base salary in the form of an annual lump sum payment based on 6% of range max with the payment split and paid twice per year based on eligibility guidelines.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

The Parts Technician is responsible for the sale and movement of recycled equipment, vehicles, and property, while providing a high level of customer service. Reviews and supports appraisal process and leverages estimating tools where required to verify the legitimacy of charges for claims pricing. Provides guidance to claims and right of recovery. Work results must adhere to technical, industry, or professional standards for the pricing, sale, shipping, receiving, inventory, and payment processing of vehicle recycled equipment, whole vehicles, and property.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Sales Operations

  • Provides customer service related to the sale, warranty and billing of vehicle parts, whole vehicles, and property, using various software tools to verify interchangeability, create invoices and track warranty and billing information.
  • Receives and processes in person and electronic payments utilizing various payment tools (e.g., Moneris, RBC express banking), and issues receipts.
  • Gathers and verifies all vehicle data, enters product details, and uploads pictures. Provides ongoing administration of SGI Salvage Website, including maintenance of bids, responding to customer inquiries, and downloading all bid information accepting winning bid and notifies successful bidder with details for pick-up.
  • Ensures proper vehicle safety inspection requirements are placed on vehicles and takes correction action to meet legislation including Automobile Accident Insurance Act (AAIA), Traffic Safety Act (TSA), SGI Canada Policy and/or other Acts and regulations.
  • Uses Audatex vehicle valuations, various online marketplaces to research vehicle/property values, and sets market value of vehicles/property for the claims process.
  • Reviews market pricing using estimating software programs like Mitchell estimating, Car Part Network, sales history, and ARA Damage chart to determine a fair market price, adjusts price when needed (price matching).
  • Accesses Auto Fund application and follows the Traffic Safety Act (TSA) to determine if they can issue a salvage vehicle registration permit.
  • Reviews SGI estimates, claims pictures, notes, to determine if parts meet quality standard and will notify body shop of parts availability.
  • Uses Bid Mate, past sales, and current inventory to identify in-demand parts and determine whether best to dismantle a vehicle or put up for bids as a complete unit.
  • Uses interchangeable parts knowledge, vehicle model knowledge, and software tools, to source out alternate parts or products that could meet customer need.
  • Uses salvage resource manual as guide to address warranty issues and process returns and credits on sales transactions according to established procedures.

Rotational Responsibilities

  • Oversees stocking of shipping materials, ships parts through various vendors, managing freight charges and quotes, inspects parts prior to shipping and on return. Handles shipping inquiries and updating all internal and external parties requiring shipping information.
  • Operates forklift, Raymond, Tele-handler, and other motorized equipment to handle and move vehicles and heavy items.
  • Prepares and balances salvage financial transactions and reports to ensure accuracy of customer statements and General Ledger accounts (e.g., daily sales reports, month-end branch sales and expenses) and compliance to divisional policies. Discrepancies and deviations are investigated and reported to the salvage administration.
  • Prepares routine journal entries and less complex non-routine journal entries in accordance with Finance guidelines.
  • Reviews past due branch accounts receivables and takes appropriate collection actions.
  • Answers inquiries from customers/vendors regarding accounts, both receivables and payables, and provides assistance and information to customers (e.g., explains outstanding balances, investigates misapplied transactions, and finds resolutions when needed.
  • Contacts lien holders through verbal or written communications to convince them to remove the outstanding liens on vehicles to be sold by SGI.
  • Issues payments to vendors for services.
  • Coordinates with tow partners on storage and negotiates rates and transportation of vehicles.
  • Inspects and prepares vehicle for bid process, identifies if drugs and any other hazard may be present and notifies appropriate team member or may coordinate remediation if assigned.
  • Inspects total loss vehicles to ensure that damages and conditions match the claim file information and advises the Senior Parts Technician or Manager of any discrepancies. Verifies that vehicle VIN number matches claim file information.

  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships with customers, internal business partners, brokers, vendors, service providers and industry participants within established customer service standards.
  • Handles appraisal and claims issues in a proactive and timely manner.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Knowledge of automotive parts and their inter-changeability.
  • Knowledge of the functionality of the automotive parts and the operation of them in the vehicle.
  • Knowledge of the automobile market, automotive repair costs and salvage values.
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle and sheet metal damage and vehicle estimation practices.
  • Knowledge inventory controls and warehousing procedures.
  • Knowledge in accounting principles relating to preparing routine accounting summaries, reconciliations, reports, and statements using computer spreadsheet applications (e.g., Excel) and checking calculations, on rotation.
  • Knowledge of SGI auto adjusting policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of requirements for vehicle inspections and standards.
  • Knowledge of all automated systems utilized by Salvage.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 or GED.
  • 3 I-CAR courses.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence.

EXPERIENCE

  • 1 - 3 years’ directly related industry related experience.

Pay Range: $51,076.00 - $60,790.00
