The Opportunity

The Nursing and Allied Health Department of Keyano College requires an experienced curriculum development specialist faculty. This requires expertise and experience in curriculum development. This is a 2-year term position in the Paramedicine programs. This individual will be responsible for all aspects of the curriculum development and course preparation portfolio including mapping of the programs to educational standards, preparing all teaching materials, updating CompTracker, developing assessments, rubrics, and evaluation components, as well as developing student and instructor documents for supervision of students in clinical/practicum placements. In addition, the faculty member will assist the Program Chair with various components of the program including preparation for program approvals, program accreditations, and other required reporting. Other duties may also be assigned.

Note: this may be considered for a remote or hybrid work opportunity, if the applicant can demonstrate the required curriculum development expertise knowledge and skills, otherwise the applicant will be required to work on campus and relocate to Fort McMurray, AB.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Map curriculum to requirements as outlined by Alberta College of Paramedics and Keyano College curriculum development requirements
  • Develop curriculum and courses, primarily in all paramedicine/EMS programs
  • Develop practicum supervision guidelines and orientation handbooks for preceptors and instructors as well as practicum support documents, program handbooks, practicum handbooks.
  • Develop instructor guides, learner guides, modules, lesson plans, teaching content, assignments, quizzes, exams, rubrics, etc
  • Align CompTracker with each program
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to design and develop curricula.
  • Maintain office hours and liaise with the Chair and Associate Dean regularly
  • Engage with community stakeholders and provincial stakeholders, including the program advisory committee
  • Maintain professional competence and knowledge of subject matter
  • Participate in all program and curriculum development meetings

Qualifications

  • Minimum- bachelor’s degree in health or health education with an Advanced Care Paramedic diploma or a licensed Registered Nurse; relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Solid knowledge of the National Occupational Competency Profile, the Pan-Canadian Essential Regulatory Requirements, the Canadian Organization of Paramedic Regulators requirements for licensing and examinations, as well as the Alberta College of Paramedics educational program approval standards.
  • Previous experience in developing program curriculum and content.
  • Registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics, College of Registered Nurses of Alberta, or willing to obtain.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Technical expertise with Microsoft Office suite.
  • A dependable and resourceful team member with a proven track record of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Able to work independently to meet set timelines and produce deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Able to work collaboratively and accept constructive feedback in curriculum development and course development.
