In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
  • Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in scientific field work and/or laboratory work.
  • Experience assessing, synthesizing or analyzing information from a variety of sources on issues related to the management or conservation of natural resources.
  • Experience in coordinating working teams and project with internal or external partners.
  • Experience in development and preparation of methodology for analysis of biological samples.

BI-03 POSITIONS ONLY
  • Experience in managing financial and/or material resources.
  • Experience in assigning and/or supervising the work of others.
  • Experience developing and providing science based advice for decision-making purposes.
  • Experience in the preparation, writing, leading of scientific research proposals.
  • Experience in peer reviewed science for primary publications and/or reports.

  • Post-graduate degree from a recognized university in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Various language requirements
  • For Supervisory positions : Bilingual – Imperative or Non-Imperative (CBC/CBC).

  • An imperative appointment process means that a person must meet the language requirements at the time of appointment
  • A non-imperative appointment means that the position can be staffed by a person who agrees to become bilingual through language training at government expense within the 2-year exemption period.

Operational requirements (For certain positions)
  • Valid driver’s license or mobility to the extent of the possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours and overtime.
  • Willingness and ability to work at sea for prolonged periods of time in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel by air, land or by sea.
  • SCUBA diving certification.
  • Electrofishing certification.
  • Pleasure Craft Operator certification and/or Small Vessel Operator Proficiency certification.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

For certain positions:
  • Valid Health Canada Medical.
  • Valid driver’s license or mobility to the extent of the possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Work flexible hours and overtime as required, including evenings and weekends.
  • Work at sea or in the field for prolonged periods of time in various weather conditions.
  • Work aboard various platforms including small planes and boats of various sizes.
  • Drive large pick-up trucks and tow trailers.
  • Travel.
