The Business Partner Finance is a key position within CPA Alberta responsible for supporting the Manager, Finance in preparing and analyzing financial information to provide advice and insight to assigned business units to improve financial results. The position is also responsible for compliance for the finance department ensuring the organization is safeguarding its assets. The Business Partner, Finance will demonstrate excellence and strong financial stewardship by creating a world class experience for its internal and external customers.

Please note this is a 12-month contract position to cover a maternity leave.

CPA Alberta has offices in Edmonton and Calgary and provides hybrid Telecommuting opportunities (working from home a maximum of 3 days a week).

What you bring

  • A CPA candidate or recently designated CPA (in good standing) is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline along with experience in a similar role.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Advanced Excel Skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Great Plains is an asset.
  • Exceptional customer service orientation and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize and execute tasks while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
  • Demonstrates integrity, competence and due professional care.

What you will be doing

Business Unit Support

  • Support business units on finance related matters such as budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Provide day-to-day assistance for financial transactions related to professional development course sales/registrations.
  • Prepare daily reconciliations of credit card statements and ensure entries are correctly recorded.

Compliance

  • Assist in the preparation of GST Returns for review by Manager Finance.
  • Finance projects as required, including providing support in the annual member and firm billing process.

Month-End/Year-End

  • Responsible for month end/year end adjusting entries and accruals for assigned business units.
  • Prepare working papers, financial reporting and analysis for assigned business units.
  • Provide timely, relevant and accurate reporting & analysis of the results of the business unit’s performance against historical, budgeted, forecasted and strategic planning results.
  • Provide value by analyzing financial information to provide insights and advice to assigned business units.
  • Assist in the interim/annual external audit process.
  • Support Manager, Finance in other financial analysis as required.
