Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care
Penetanguishene
CAD 200,000 - 250,000
Job description

Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is searching for a Forensic Psychiatrist to join our Team!

Located on beautiful Georgian Bay, Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 311-bed psychiatric hospital providing specialized inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care for the North Simcoe Muskoka region, and providing forensic psychiatric care for patients requiring a high secure facility.

Less than two hours from Toronto and approximately 45 minutes from Barrie, this area provides ample outdoor recreational opportunities year round including cycling, curling, fishing, boating, hiking, and snowmobiling. At Waypoint, we believe in maintaining a work environment where people find meaning, enjoyment, and professional growth in their work while balancing and integrating with other aspects of their lives.

Clinical Setting and Duties:

We are currently inviting expressions of interest for full time and temporary full time (Locum) Psychiatrists to care for Forensic mental health inpatients.

We offer assessment, evidence-based treatment and recovery-oriented rehabilitation across a broad range of needs, including patients who are in hospital under an order of the Ontario Review Board due to their involvement with the criminal justice system. As a result, periodic reports and appearances before the Review Board is a requirement of this work. Some of Waypoint’s key treatment philosophies include recovery-oriented and evidence-based practices in the least restrictive environment. The goal is to provide the patient with as much liberty as possible while respecting the safety needs of staff and the public, and complying with legal requirements.

We are also keen to develop physician leadership opportunities across the organization. We offer physicians career development opportunities in teaching and research, quality improvement and leadership/administration. Waypoint has academic affiliations with five Ontario medical institutions and candidates will be encouraged to apply for a university appointment if they do not already have one.

Setting and Required Skills:

We are accepting expressions of interest by candidates who hold an MD or equivalent and who are in good standing and hold certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or are eligible to sit the exam. Candidates must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario, which may include eligibility for an academic license through appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher at the University of Toronto. The ideal candidate will hold a sub-specialty in Forensic Psychiatry; other candidates will also be considered based on their experience. Preference will be given to a candidate who is interested in contributing to our academic culture through one or more of the above activities, and who thrives as part of a collaborative team.

Remuneration and Benefits:

Our salaried compensation model includes five weeks paid vacation, two weeks paid professional development days, an education/professional dues allowance, and a robust pension benefit. Per diem remuneration is also available.

How to Apply:

If you are interested in this opportunity, please continue by submitting your application via email to jbeausoleil@waypointcentre.ca. Attach a cover letter and resume detailing why you are interested in this opportunity and how your qualifications and experience align with this position.
