Small Engine Field Mechanic (Cleaning Industry)

Department Purpose/ Function

Ensure superior customer service for all United’s equipment by running an efficient operation of mechanical services to subcontractors in accordance with company quality standards, programs, and procedures.

Job Summary

Carry out all equipment repairs and implement efficient preventative maintenance to all machines required by the Corporation to ensure excellent quality and customer satisfaction in a 24/7 on-call environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate and schedule the activities to repair and maintain the equipment as required by the Department.
  2. Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program.
  3. Develop procedures for the storage of parts/equipment.
  4. Responsible for inventory of equipment parts in vehicle.
  5. Resolve work problems and recommend work measures to improve productivity.
  6. Train subcontractors and/or Area Managers on best practices to maintain the equipment in good working condition.
  7. Ensure that standards for safe working conditions are observed at all times.
  8. Prepare reports as required by the Manager of Mechanical Services.
  9. Perform other duties as required by immediate superior.
  10. Foster and build working relationships with Subcontractors.

On Call for Service Technicians

Service technicians will be required to be on-call on weekends on a rotating basis. The details of this will be provided in an employment contract or in a written letter provided to you by United.

On-call work will be defined as:

  1. Attending service calls as scheduled by dispatch which may be in and out of your primary service territory.
  2. Complete outstanding WIP (Work in Progress) while on call and not attending to a service call. This work will include but not be limited to administering service appointments, uploading supporting documentation, media and/or reports, and ensuring active work orders more than 72 hours old are completed.
  3. Inventory reconciliations and/or audits as assigned by Warehouse / Logistics Manager.
  4. Any other work as per your job description and which is assigned to you by your manager.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Perform all daily functions in alignment with company mission, vision, and values.
  2. Work in compliance with Health & Safety policies and legislation, and take every reasonable precaution to protect the health and safety of all employees and business partners.
  3. Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and labour laws.
  4. Actively participate in and contribute during meetings, sessions, or company projects.
  5. Protect company assets from damage and misuse.
  6. Perform other related duties as may be required from time to time.

Job Requirements and Expectations

  1. Be available to address Customer or subcontractor needs and concerns in a timely manner.
  2. Be willing to travel frequently within your designated territory or outside the province (as may be required from time to time).
  3. Ability to deal with a high level of stress and promptly solve problems as they arise.
  4. Ability to work flexible shifts on a rotational basis.
