Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources (Manager), the Human Resources Coordinator (Coordinator) is responsible for the provision of a range of responsive human resource (HR) support services to the Department (inclusive of supporting Regional School Operations and others such as schools, District Education Authorities (DEAs)) as and when necessary. This position provides ongoing advice and support to all departmental staff and central agencies in administrating staff recruitment, staff training and development, employee relations and disciplinary matters, HR reporting and ongoing performance management initiatives.
The Coordinator, through their activities, ensures that the Department adheres/responds to the requirements outlined in the Education Act and Regulations, Public Service Act, Government of Nunavut HR Manual, and the Department’s HR Guide, Collective Agreements, and any other applicable legislation, regulations, policies, directives, procedures, etc. The Coordinator plays an integral part in the implementation and monitoring of the departmental Inuit Employment Plan. Working with the Manager, the Coordinator will develop, implement, monitor and evaluate comprehensive training, HR planning and leadership programs as well as provide technical guidance and policy advice to all divisions of the departments in the areas of human resources development and staff training.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized college diploma in Human Resources Management, Labour or Industrial Relations or related field, with a minimum of two (2) years of related human resources experience or related field. Experience working with Collective Agreements and in a unionized environment is an asset.
Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
