Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) at Ukrainian Credit Union Limited (“UCU”)


About Ukrainian Credit Union Limited

Founded in 1944, UCU is a full-service, member-owned financial institution servicing over 29,000 members across Ontario. Through its 16 branches and service points, call centre, and digital banking, UCU provides an extensive range of services, including mortgages, small business loans, personal and commercial banking, wealth management, and financial advice.

UCU is the largest credit union in Canada operating under an ethnically based charter. Although membership is not restricted to individuals of Ukrainian descent, UCU is dedicated to serving the Ukrainian Canadian community and preserving Ukrainian cultural identity.


The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”), the COO leads the effective execution of the purpose, vision, long-term strategy, and short-term objectives of UCU. The COO plays a pivotal role in driving large-scale digital, cyber, and structural transformations, ensuring these changes are successfully implemented at physical branch locations.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership: Lead the execution of UCU’s purpose, vision, and strategic objectives.
  2. Operational Excellence: Oversee the effective implementation of operational processes and initiatives.
  3. Branch Operations: Design changes related to growth and ensure successful implementation.
  4. Digital Transformation: Spearhead UCU’s digital transformation initiatives.
  5. Growth and Expansion: Collaborate with senior leadership to develop strategies that drive growth.
  6. Collaboration and Team Leadership: Provide hands-on leadership to cross-functional teams.
  7. Innovation and Process Improvement: Drive sustainable innovation and process improvements.

The Individual

The COO is a seasoned finance executive, with expertise in successfully leading teams across banking, wealth management, and branch management. The COO is a strategic leader with a proven track record of driving transformation and operational excellence.


Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  1. 10+ years of experience in financial services; minimum of 5 years in senior management roles.
  2. Proven ability to manage and enhance core banking functions.
  3. Experience in leading digital transformations and implementing IT innovations.
  4. Strong understanding of digital banking platforms.
  5. Experience managing relationships with government and regulatory bodies.
  6. Collaborative leader with experience in managing branch operations.
  7. Ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
  8. Ukrainian and English bilingualism is an asset.

Education

  1. Bachelor's degree in business or finance.
  2. Master's degree preferred.
