About the role

Location: Work from home in BC

The Contract Specialist/Paralegal will manage all aspects of the contract lifecycle, including drafting, negotiation, execution, and administration, while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and legal standards. This role requires a legal background, strong understanding of contract law to maximize productivity while minimizing liabilities, and excellent communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders across legal, procurement, and other departments. Responsibilities include setting up and maintaining contracts with sub-contractors, managing a contract registry to track deadlines for renewals and amendments, and providing legal support to the business. Additionally, the Contracts Specialist/Paralegal will assist with risk management by handling insurance requirements, updating the risk register, and working with the Executive team and stakeholders at the parent company, APM, to implement risk mitigation measures.

What you'll do

  • Draft, review and negotiate a variety of contracts, including but not limited to service contracts, lease agreements, supplier agreements, licensing programs, MOUs, and confidentiality agreements as they relate to acquisition of goods and services ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory bodies, and applicable laws
  • Collaborates with WCG stakeholders, including internal Legal counsel, WCG leaders, and external partners, to define contract terms, scope of work, and deliverables
  • Stay up to date on local regulations and legal requirements (such as Anti-Slavery) that WCG must adhere to and ensure they are included in contracts
  • Scrutinize, appraise, design and amend contractual terms and conditions for new and existing operational, sub-contract, property and service proposals
  • Facilitates contract renewals, extensions, and amendments, working closely with WCG stakeholders to negotiate terms and resolve disputes as needed
  • Helps in identifying and managing potential legal risks and issues
  • Provide contractual guidance to heads of department and regional directors on operational and corporate queries
  • Maintain a centralized repository for all contracts and related documents ensuring all amendments and renewals are processed in a timely manner
  • Prepares and distributes contract-related reports, summaries, and analyses to inform stakeholders of contract status, risks, and opportunities
  • Ensure Contract Compliance from an administration lens (ensuring annual compliance of terms such as providing proof of insurance or submitting financial statements)
  • Identifies and mitigates contractual risks and liabilities through careful review, analysis, and negotiation of contract terms, conditions, and clauses
  • Provides guidance and support to WCG stakeholders on contract-related matters, including interpretation of contractual provisions, rights, and obligations
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders to address contract-related inquiries, issues, and concerns in a timely and professional manner
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships with key stakeholders, including vendors, clients, and business partners, to foster collaboration and facilitate successful contract outcomes
  • Work closely with internal APM Legal council in drafting, reviewing and finalizing contracts
  • Work closely with Procurement team with contract negotiations
  • Ensure a coherent record of contracting services are held, monitored and updated to assist the business to review performance and strategy priorities
  • Ensure adequate insurance is in place for WCG to mitigate against potential risk, through working with APM insurance manager and WCG’s insurance broker
  • Attend professional development activities to maintain and improve knowledge of systems and concepts relating to role

Qualifications


What you bring


  • Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, Business Administration, Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM) or related field; additional education such as a Juris Doctor is a plus
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a contracts manager, paralegal specializing in contracts, or similar role, with a focus on contract preparation, review, and administration
  • Strong analytical reasoning skills
  • Understanding of contract law, legal terminology, and contract management best practices.
  • Proficiency in contract management software and tools, with experience using databases, document management systems, and electronic signature platforms
  • Excellent communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts and negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player with a collaborative mindset and a commitment to delivering high-quality results and customer service excellence
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and to plan and prioritize your own workload, act on own initiative and effectively manage a multi-faceted workload. Ethics and values focused
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal Record Check
