Job Description:
This role is primarily clinical chair-side assisting duties including knowledge of instrumentation. The assistant will establish strong patient relationships while maintaining ethical professional behaviour. The assistant will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of and preparing treatment rooms in accordance with infection control and health and safety standards.
Job Duties:
Routine and typical duties as a dental assistant such as personally greeting patients, receiving and sending correspondence and emails, facilitating and scheduling appointments, processing payments, assisting with insurance claims and pre-determinations, and screening incoming mail.
Ensure patient education and that patients understand the office treatment philosophy, which is to provide the best dentistry possible for all patients.
Encourage patients to have the correct treatment at their next visit.
Assist in adding pre-determination codes to the computer and scheduling future appointments.
Ensure that patients have another appointment on leaving, even if it is only tentative.
Be at work, ready, prior to first patient arrival in the morning and after lunch.
Ensure that all documentation is accurate and complete including signed consent and waiver forms, assisting with processing reports, correspondence, clinical notes, and records.
Positively motivate patients, ensuring a positive patient experience.
Ensure patients know what oral aids are available.
Maintain consistent communication with patients in line with office policy.
Keep personal space and any other common working space clean and tidy, including the patient lounge and reception area.
Maintain standards of sterilization and office privacy protocols.
Monitor administrative and office supplies and advise responsible person when stocks are getting low.
Uphold and promote the positive reputation of the practice and dentist.
Encourage patients to refer family and friends by promoting the positive aspects of the practice and the dentist.
Crossover duties and miscellaneous duties to assist the proper functioning of the practice.
Attend and contribute to team meetings.
Attend further continuing education courses upon request.
Maintain correct standards of professional care as expected by all relevant regulatory and professional authorities.
Qualifications:
Proficient in medical terminology and dental assisting techniques.
Experience with dental software such as Paradigm and Dentrix.
Knowledge of orthodontics and pediatric dental care.
Ability to perform as a dental receptionist when needed.
Familiarity with CAD technology in dental applications.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction.
