POSITION SUMMARY
A permanent part time (0.6) Psychologist is required for the Centre for Healthy Active Living (CHAL).
CHAL
The CHAL program provides comprehensive, evidence-based treatment for children and youth living with associated complex, severe medical or psychosocial co-morbidity or chronic illness impacted by obesity who require sub-specialty medical care. The psychologist will be working within a multi-disciplinary team of specialists such as a paediatric endocrinologist, general paediatrician, case management nurse, registered dietitian, exercise specialist, social worker and child and youth counsellor. CHAL promotes capacity among community providers caring for this population, fosters collaborative relationships and partnerships that support seamless transitions between health care providers, provides a setting for clinical and epidemiological evaluation and research, and promotes the dissemination of knowledge in the field of pediatric obesity.
At CHAL, the Psychologist will:
Conduct psychological/behavioural assessments as part of an interdisciplinary assessment of health and psychosocial wellbeing;
Participate in the development of an interdisciplinary treatment plan;
Provide individual, family and group therapy, including the treatment of binge eating disorder, body image disturbance, mood and anxiety issues, interventions targeted at managing the realities of living with obesity, coping with coping with chronic illness and pain, and improving medication and medical intervention adherence
Provide intervention aimed at health behavior change, including using a strength-based approach to enhancing health and quality of live and removing barriers to health behaviors and medical adherence
Liaison with other health care professionals with regard to assessment findings, recommendations, and their implications for the management of the child/youth’s health needs
Collaborate with schools and other mental health providers to ensure appropriate referrals to other services are made and patients’ mental health and learning needs are addressed
Provide supervision/training of pre-doctoral psychology residents and practicum students, and offer learning opportunities to other student professionals in training
Assist and collaborate with program evaluation and development of research projects that reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the clinical services and care provided by the team
Function as part of an interdisciplinary health-care team working in a child centered family-focused environment where parents and caregivers are seen as partners in care.
Collaborate with Psychologists to assist with coverage and backup during vacations and exceptionally busy times
QUALIFICATIONS
Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
PhD in Clinical Psychology from an APA or CPA accredited Clinical Psychology program (Essential)
Registration or eligibility for registration as a Psychologist in Ontario (Essential)
Designated practice as a Psychologist in Clinical Psychology with children and adolescents (Essential)
Experience in a paediatric health-care setting (Essential)
Experience providing services to children and youth with complex medical and mental health conditions (Essential)
Training and experience in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), and Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT) (Preferred)
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with other health professionals (Essential)
Flexibility in work hours (evening and weekend work may be required) (Essential)
Supervision experience (Preferred)
Bilingualism (Fluency in both French and English) (Preferred)

Centre des saines habitudes de vie (CHAL)
Le programme CHAL fournit des traitements complets fondés sur des données probantes aux enfants et aux adolescents atteints d’obésité complexe grave nécessitant des soins médicaux de sous-spécialité. Il renforce les capacités des fournisseurs de soins communautaires qui s’occupent de cette population, il facilite des relations et des partenariats visant à assurer des transitions harmonieuses d’un fournisseur de soins à un autre, il fournit un centre d’évaluation et de recherche cliniques et épidémiologiques et il aide à disséminer les connaissances du domaine de l’obésité pédiatrique.
Au CHAL, le ou la psychologue:
Mènera des évaluations psychologiques et comportementales dans le cadre de l’évaluation interdisciplinaire du bien-être physique et psychosocial des patients.
Participera à l’élaboration des plans de traitement interdisciplinaires.
Mènera des thérapies individuelles, familiales et de groupe pour traiter, entre autres choses, l’hyperphagie boulimique, les problèmes d’image corporelle ainsi que les troubles de l’humeur et l’anxiété.
Collaborera avec les éducateurs scolaires et avec d’autres fournisseurs de soins de santé mentale pour répondre aux besoins des patients en santé mentale et en apprentissage.
Participera à l’évaluation continuelle du programme ainsi qu’aux activités d’approche.
Participera aux travaux d’une équipe interdisciplinaire de soins de santé dans un milieu axé sur les enfants et sur leurs familles où l’on considère les parents et les tuteurs comme des partenaires.
QUALIFICATIONS
Vérification des antécédents en vue d’un travail auprès de personnes vulnérables (Essentiel)
Diplôme de doctorat en psychologie clinique d’une université accréditée (Essentiel)
Agrément de psychologue en Ontario, ou admissibilité à cet agrément (Essentiel)
Expérience du milieu de soins de santé pédiatriques (Essentiel)
Adhésion à l’Ordre des psychologues de l’Ontario pour travailler auprès des enfants,
