Coordinator, Cultural Heritage

We are looking for an engaging, personable, and safety-focused individual to support Highland Valley Copper’s (HVC) site-wide cultural heritage program in alignment with Teck’s Health and Safety Policy, Indigenous People’s Policy, Environment and Community Management Standards and commitments to Indigenous Governments and Organizations. Reporting to the Cultural Heritage Specialist, the Cultural Heritage Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Cultural Heritage Program and overseeing crews throughout the field season. This role requires ensuring field crews are able to conduct their work safely each day. Outside of the field season the Cultural Heritage Coordinator will assist with administrative, permitting, and compliance related tasks.

We are looking for someone with a strong focus on integrity, respect, and safety. You are self-motivated, accountable, and organized, ideally with demonstrated personnel management skills.

Responsibilities

• Be a Courageous Safety Leader through promotion and adherence to established Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
• Support all aspects of the HVC Cultural Heritage Program to meet the requirements under agreements between HVC and Indigenous Governments and Organizations as well as the BC Heritage Conservation Act (HCA).
• Support in the execution of the program schedule through assisting with the daily oversight of crews on site.
• Maintain an understanding of applicable HCA regulations, guidelines, and associated industry best practices within BC.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Preference will be given to degrees in anthropology, archaeology, or equivalent heritage fields. Degrees in geography, natural resource science or similar field will be also considered.
• Alternatively, a minimum 2 years progress toward one of the above mentioned degrees or a completed diploma, plus a minimum of 2 years cultural heritage field experience will also be considered.
• Demonstrated knowledge of BC archaeology, cultural heritage, and the Heritage Conservation Act.
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment with a strict adherence to safety standards.
• Field experience working in mining or a similar industry with strict safety standards.
• Knowledge and understanding of the culture and history of Interior BC First Nations.
• Familiarity and demonstrated experience with engagement best practices, UNDRIP, FPIC, DRIPA, and other related changes in related policy and/or regulatory advancements.
• Strong computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint).
• Proven ability to demonstrate strong planning and organizational skills. Experience with invoicing and budget management is preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, and a high level of situational awareness.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Salary Range: $82,000 - $101,000

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
