Job Summary
The Accounting and Customs Manager position reports to the Senior Manager of Finance. This position is responsible for the day-to-day management and directing all phases of accounting, finance, financial reporting and customs activities. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting policies, procedures and reporting in accordance to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting and customs activities including month-end close, year-end reporting, treasury functions, financial reporting, and preparing for internal and external audits.
Responsibilities
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing and reporting.
- Analyze and report monthly/quarterly/yearly financial statements to stakeholders and regional/corporate headquarters including financial data, budget variances, KPI reporting, and other required reporting.
- Review and approve daily transactions including accounts payable disbursements, inter-company transactions, journal entries, and customs issues.
- Prepare and negotiate the annual/revised budget with management and executives.
- Prepare and execute department goals and collaborate with other departments and the NA Region.
- Lead projects and systems implementation for efficiency, delegating and supervising team members for timely completion.
- Ensure compliance with laws and reporting requirements to internal and external stakeholders including US and Canadian customs.
- File all government reporting accurately and timely, including Corporate Income Tax Returns.
- Maintain knowledge of Canadian taxation and ensure compliance with various tax obligations.
- Implement appropriate internal controls and assist with audits as required.
- Coordinate interim and year-end external audits ensuring compliance with IFRS and GAAP.
- Review and approve weekly cash disbursements, treasury functions, and bank reconciliations.
- Ensure timely collection and payment of Accounts Receivables/Payables and resolve discrepancies.
- Respond to inquiries from the Director and company-wide managers regarding financial results.
- Develop and implement new policies and procedures to enhance workflow and compliance.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the team, promoting professional development and a health and safety mindset.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- 8+ years of progressively responsible management experience in a similar role, preferably in manufacturing or automotive industry.
- Designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills to investigate and reconcile information.
- Understanding of current accounting operational structure.
- Customer service orientation.
- Advanced understanding of accounting principles and basic tax knowledge.
- Project management skills.
- Advanced systems knowledge (Oracle, JDE).
- Complete understanding of the financial close process.
- Understanding of local and provincial compliance requirements.
- People management and development skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain goals and objectives.
Salary Range: CAD $110,000-$120,000
