The Opportunity:

McElhanney offers an exciting opportunity for a Junior Geotechnical Engineer or EIT (Engineer-in-Training) to join our growing Geotechnical division in Nanaimo or Courtenay, BC. As a Junior Engineer, you will have the opportunity to build your technical skills and contribute to a variety of exciting geotechnical projects.

In this role, you will work closely with senior engineers and contribute to geotechnical investigations, analysis, and design on transportation, land development, municipal, and resource-related projects.

Salary Range: $75,000-$110,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. This is a full-time position offering a 40-hour work week Monday to Friday.

What You’ll Be Doing:

1. Assist with geotechnical investigations and studies, including conducting field tests, interpreting results, and documenting findings.
2. Support geotechnical analysis and design on a variety of projects, including foundations, slope stability, and soil behavior.
3. Prepare geotechnical reports with clear and concise recommendations for clients.
4. Coordinate fieldwork including safety assessments, subcontractor coordination, and data collection.
5. Support the senior team members in day-to-day activities, including client communication, project management, and proposal preparation.
6. Work with multidisciplinary teams from other divisions like Structural, Civil, and Environmental.

What You’ll Bring:

1. Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical emphasis.
2. 0-5 years of experience or a recent graduate in geotechnical engineering or a closely related field.
3. Interest in geotechnical engineering design, analysis, and consulting with an eagerness to learn and grow within the field.
4. Knowledge of geotechnical software (e.g., GeoStudio, RocScience, etc.) is an asset.
5. Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports and liaise with clients and colleagues.
6. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a keen attention to detail and a passion for learning.
7. Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
