Fish-Processing Plant Labourer

Hailmar Investments Ltd. based in Lockeport, NS is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Fish Plant Labourer who are self-motivated and have good interpersonal skills. The candidate who got selected will be required to start work as soon as possible. The vacancies refer to full time or seasonal employment. The shift timings include day, evening, night, weekend, shift, overtime, on call, flexible hours, to be determined, early morning and morning.

Job Description

• The candidate will be responsible for transporting fish and shellfish to the work area.
• The candidate must condition fish fillets for wrapping or freezing.
• The candidate will be expected to clean machines and surrounding work areas.
• The candidate will be required to unload fish and shellfish from fishing vessels and transport them to the work area by hand or forklift truck.
• The candidate will be required to weigh fish or shellfish, record weight, and pack fish in ice.
• The candidate will be expected to sort fish based on species, weight, and destination.
• The candidate must measure and dump ingredients into the hoppers of mixing and grinding machines.
• The candidate will be required to remove scales and unwanted parts with a knife.
• The candidate will be responsible for inspecting products and packaging for defects, ensuring conformance to company standards, and performing corrective machine adjustments as needed.
• The candidate will be required to disjoint and remove meat from lobsters or other crustaceans prior to canning or further processing.
• The candidate will be expected to inspect fish fillets to determine the optimal number and size of fillet sections, cut sections according to specifications, and place sections in a container for weighing.
• Prior to marketing or further processing, the candidate will be expected to cut, clean, and trim fish or seafood.
• The candidate will be expected to adhere to all sanitation and hygiene policies.
• The candidate must maintain the sharpness, cleanliness, and sterilization of knives and tools.
• The candidate will be expected to manage inventory, keep sales records, and determine the quantity, product line, and freshness of products in accordance with company and customer requirements.
• The candidate will be required to handle and process raw materials safely, including thawing, removing impurities to ensure product safety, separating components, and providing a consistent product in terms of quantity, size, or quality.
