Job Description

The Project Manager is responsible for leading and delivering ship construction and engineering projects from concept through to completion, ensuring alignment with cost, schedule and quality requirements. This role involves managing multi-disciplinary teams, coordinating with stakeholders, mitigating risks, and optimizing project execution. The Project Manager will provide leadership in planning, execution and delivery of technical solutions across ship construction/shipbuilding, vessel maintenance and refit projects.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What You’ll Do
  1. Lead project management efforts for ship construction and engineering projects, including new construction, vessel maintenance and refits.
  2. Develop and manage project plans, including construction scope, schedule, resource allocation and budgets.
  3. Oversee the execution of engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with project requirements, cost, schedule and quality standards.
  4. Prepare and submit proposal packages, including technical scope of work, cost estimates, and schedules.
  5. Manage subcontractors and vendors, ensuring alignment with project objectives and contractual obligations.
  6. Facilitate stakeholder meetings, progress reviews, and project reporting to ensure transparency and alignment.
  7. Collaborate with engineering teams to assess risks, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement best practices.
  8. Ensure regulatory and classification society compliance across all project phases.
  9. Support continuous process improvements and lessons learned initiatives.
  10. Provide project oversight for National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) programs, innovation initiatives, in-service support (ISS), and program services.
  11. Serve as a qualified resource under the CCG Engineering Support Services (ESS) contract.
  12. Work with the Vessel Maintenance Manager on planned maintenance, refits, and drydocking schedules.
What You’ll Bring
  1. Technical education in electrical engineering or related field required.
  2. Minimum of 4 years demonstrated experience in project management within shipbuilding, vessel maintenance, or maritime engineering domains.
  3. Strong understanding of project management methodologies, Earned Value Management, engineering best practices, and risk management principles.
  4. Experience managing subcontractors, budgets, schedules, and resource planning.
  5. Experience working with Navy projects and other government agencies projects.
  6. Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  7. High proficiency in CADMATIC eShare, Jira, and ARAS is required.
  8. Eligible to obtain ITAR security clearance for Canadian Navy in-service support tasks.
  9. Established relationships with CCG, BCF, and other shipyards are highly desirable.
  10. Demonstrated experience handling sophisticated projects, bids or proposals. Solid ability to meet or exceed commitments in a fast paced, diverse environment with rapid change and competing priorities.
  11. Certified project management qualification a distinct advantage (e.g. PMP) or working towards one.
  12. Detailed understanding of project management techniques and methods.
  13. Good judgment and prioritization abilities.
  14. Effective, efficient communication skills.
  15. A strong business sense.
  16. Strong problem-solving skills.
  17. Ability to strategize and see the bigger picture, whilst focusing on the details.
  18. Excellent interpersonal skills, able to empower and empathize with team members.
  19. Ability to influence others and manage expectations.
  20. Familiarity with Government contracting and performance management of major subcontractors.
  21. Effectively manages conflict.
  22. Excellent computer skills including Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
  23. Experience working with National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) programs and naval vessels or similar government contracts.
  24. Knowledge of vessel maintenance and lifecycle management.
  25. Familiarity with Engineering Support Services (ESS) contracts and maritime regulations.

The estimated salary for this position is $106,900-$128,300. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
