Senior Accountant
We are on the lookout for a full-time, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. This is an in-person position, Monday to Friday with the potential for one work from home day per week. MNS & Associates and its affiliates provide a broad range of accounting, taxation and assurance services. Our business services also include developing business plans, incorporating new business entities, succession planning, and joint venture structuring and financing. While accurate financial records are essential for a company to meet tax filing requirements, they are equally important as a management tool. We specialize in small and medium-sized companies. Our services are designed to assist businesses through sound planning, financial and quality, and management systems.
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Assurance team to complete audits and reviews for clients, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Assist in the preparation of working papers, schedules, and supporting documentation for audits.
- Prepare and maintain payroll and related government remittances/filings, recording of sales, accounts receivable, expenses, accounts payable and payroll transactions.
- Prepare Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) returns, Personal and Corporate Tax Returns, ensuring all necessary information is accurate and compliant with CRA regulations.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with client needs and industry standards.
- Analyze financial data and assist clients with financial reporting, ensuring transparency and clarity.
- Preparation of T4 and T5 slips.
- Bookkeeping for clients.
- Document filing in an electronic database for easy access and retrieval.
- Assist with the preparation of documents related to financial planning.
- Manage and maintain client relationships, providing high-quality customer service.
- Communicate with CRA on client files.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff, assisting with training and development in areas such as bookkeeping, tax preparation, and auditing.
- Help junior team members with technical questions, ensuring they grow and develop in their roles.
- Traveling around the GTA to various clients may also be a requirement.
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in the CPA program or planning to pursue the CPA designation.
- 3+ years of experience in an accounting role, ideally in public accounting or a related field.
- Strong understanding of Canadian tax laws and financial reporting standards.
- Proficient with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Jazzit, Profile, Caseware) and advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple client accounts simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with clients and team members effectively.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel within the GTA to various clients (may also be required).
