Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship, the Welding / Manufacturing Technician supports students and faculty with a safe and effective learning environment. The incumbent also maintains all equipment, tools and supplies that are used in the Machine, Maintenance, Mechatronics and Welding shops, including replenishment and inventory control.
The Technician collaborates with the faculty and the Deans office to develop and build the training assets as needed. Using a variety of appropriate strategies, the incumbent will ensure that the College is complying with all relevant safety rules and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Front-line staff for health and safety compliance. Works to maintain a culture of health and safety, using clear, firm, yet student appropriate strategies to ensure compliance. Works with the academic team to ensure compliance.
  • Maintains comprehensive repair and maintenance on all instructional equipment in various labs.
  • Issues tools and equipment to staff and students during scheduled classes.
  • Maintains records of tools and equipment issued and returned, on shared files within our Loyalist system.
  • Enforces, as appropriate, safety rules and consults, collaborates and communicates with faculty, staff and students on matters pertaining to safety concerns.
  • Makes visual checks to confirm that students are wearing safety glasses and boots, as required, and solves issues in an effective, collaborative manner.
  • Delivers tools or equipment to staff, manually or using a hand truck or forklift.
  • Orients new faculty to the locations of the supplies needed to conduct a class.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Completion of a two (2) year post secondary education program or equivalency
  • Provincial Trades Credential required
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in Machining, Welding, Electrical Trouble Shooting, Electronic and Software trouble shooting, Basic Fabrication Skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
