Under the direction of the Director, Information & Learning Technology, and working closely with the Director, University of Toronto Electronic Music Studio, the Music Digital Media Production Specialist will play a critical role in assessing and integrating high quality music production audio visual (AV) solutions and infrastructure throughout the Faculty of Music. Responsibilities will include setting up and maintaining audio/visual systems, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, performing preventive maintenance on audio-visual equipment, responding to service requests in a timely fashion, and operating AV equipment. The Specialist will contribute to the mission and diverse research, teaching, and musical activities of the Faculty of Music by supporting technology-mediated music (e.g., live electronics, live sound, and studio production), managing and maintaining the equipment of a professional music production studio (University of Toronto Electronic Music Studio), and being a key player in the design and operation of the Information & Learning Technology area’s concert recording service. The Specialist will be required to work some evenings and weekends.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides
• Scheduling audio-visual equipment bookings
• Coordinating the booking and delivery of classroom audio-visual equipment
• Planning and implementing components of IT related projects
• Editing post-production audio and/or visual material
• Tracking service metrics to inform continuous service improvements
• Monitoring accounts for a project and/or program

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
• Minimum four (4) years experience assessing, recommending, contributing to the design of, and operating music production AV systems, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
• Experience setting up and operating audio-video recording systems to document live music concerts.
• Experience setting up and supporting live electronics and live sound in the performance of music.
• Experience working with a diverse array of music genres regularly performed at the Faculty of Music: Western Classical, Jazz, Contemporary, Opera, Gospel, and various popular music genres.
• Experience managing and implementing projects and priorities, including a strong understanding of the application of project management methodology.
• In-depth and demonstrated knowledge with AV technology and ability to keep abreast of developments in AV technology, with a strong emphasis on user experience.
• Demonstrated experience with the following: large format analog audio consoles, digital audio consoles, multichannel audio recording systems, multichannel reproduction systems in the studio and concert hall, audio over IP, analog/digital audio patch bays and audio interconnect, physical and in-the-box MIDI, broadcast video cameras and accessories, multi-camera live hardware video switchers, digital audio workstation software and music production plugins, video editing and motion graphics software.
• Demonstrated experience performing basic repair and maintenance of professional studio equipment, including internal circuitry.
• Strong knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
• Superior organizational and analytical/diagnostic skills.
• Must be self-motivated, results-oriented, a quick learner with a strong customer service focus and impeccable attention to detail.
• Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, meeting strict deadlines and demonstrating sound judgment.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Assets (Nonessential):

• Demonstrated experience with the following is preferred: SSL AWS console family; Allen & Heath SQ mixer series; Avid HDX recording systems; Dolby Atmos; Dante; Sony F family of cameras and associated lenses (e.g., FS7, FX3, and lenses); Blackmagic Design ATEM production video switchers; Pro Tools, Ableton, Logic Pro, and Reaper DAW software for audio recording, editing, and sound design/production; Adobe Premiere Pro and Davinci Resolve Studio video software for video editing and batch creation of motion graphics.

USW Pay Band 13 -- $84,813. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $108,463. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
