Sr. Laboratory Technician
JOB PURPOSE
Position reports directly to Fluids Lab Supervisor. Responsible for assisting in coordination and scheduling of lab analyses, performing laboratory testing as required, conducting QC of lab data, and generating lab reports for issuance to clients. Ensures that client deadlines are met.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments. Perform laboratory equipment repairs when necessary.
- Identify equipment and laboratory needs to ensure continuity and efficiency of operations.
- Perform routine and specialized analyses on pressurized and atmospheric pressure gas, oil, water and other samples.
- Perform complex calculations and derive accurate lab data.
- Conduct quality control and quality assurance to ensure accurate analytical results.
- Generate laboratory reports for distribution to clients.
- Interface and communicate with clients regarding project set-up and relevance of analytical testing performed.
- Provide technical expertise, training and support to other laboratory personnel as required.
- Liaise with the lab supervisor and project coordinators to prioritize lab analyses and projects.
- Contact clients to provide technical advice and confirm analysis requirements prior to project initiation.
- Organize and coordinate junior lab staff to complete lab analyses as per priority.
- Communicate with clients if deadlines are slipping and advise on revised turnaround times.
- Respond to on-call situations after normal working hours as required.
- Work during weekends to complete projects and meet deadlines as required.
- Perform special projects and/or other duties as requested by superiors.
- Comply with safety responsibilities outlined in the Safety Responsibility Policy.
- Maintain confidentiality and impartiality.
- Maintain a safe, clean, efficient workplace, addressing safety infractions in a timely manner.
- Maintain compliance with Health, Safety, and Quality Management Systems requirements.
- Contribute to the effectiveness of the Management System, including performance improvement and reduction of nonconformities.
- Ensure that an adequate stock of supplies is maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a science-related subject required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a laboratory environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, and bend. Must be able to work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum or petrochemicals without allergic reactions or nausea. The department provides product information, training, engineering controls, and personal protective equipment to protect employees from exposure to potentially harmful levels of these materials.
