Structural Designer - Vancouver BC

The Structural Engineering Designer will work with staff from multiple engineering disciplines under the general direction of an Engineer or Manager. Engineering Designers typically perform professional office and field design work from concept development to final construction documents for a wide range of industrial and commercial projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general direction of the Structural Engineering Manager or his/her designate, the duties and responsibilities of the Structural Designer include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Prepare plans, drawings, quantities, specifications and/or other documents for engineering projects using computer-aided design (CAD) software or other software systems.
• Process preliminary design data to be used in various stages of design document preparation.
• Collaborate with Engineers to complete design projects of various levels of complexity.
• Utilize existing CAD standards in the development of design documents.
• Perform field measurements for validation of existing or as-built conditions.
• Recommend upgrades and revisions to internal procedures and practices.
• Other duties as assigned.

Desired Capabilities and Abilities:

• Implement engineering principles and practices to project design.
• Utilize the principles and practices of CAD systems.
• Proficiency using Autodesk Revit.
• Utilize CAD software to develop 3D models and 2D drawing sets for engineering projects.
• General knowledge of equipment and materials used in the construction phase of projects.
• Perform mathematical calculations relative to drafting and design layout of systems and structures.
• Performance of limited inspections of construction work to confirm compliance with design intent.
• Effectively communicate and interact with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and clients.
• Exceptional attention to detail and quality of work.
• Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks.
• Valid Driver’s License and vehicle.
• Authorized to work in Canada.

Qualifications and Education:

• Education: Position requires experience and proficiency with Revit or similar 3D Design Software. Associate Degree in Drafting or CAD Design, or two years of college course work focused in Mechanical or Structural Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years working with Autodesk Revit, 2D or 3D design software in industries related to construction. Additional experience may be substituted for educational requirements.

Working Conditions:

• Work normal business hours but may be required to do some work in the evenings or outside normal working hours.
• Able to work on a computer for long periods of time.
• Required to spend long hours concentrating, which will require attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
• Required to meet a number of deadlines which may cause stress.
• Able to travel domestically and internationally if required.
