The Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission (SWDC) is a producer-led organization established by the Saskatchewan government in June 2013 to build a platform for growth in the province’s wheat industry. Its mandate is to enhance wheat producers’ competitiveness and profitability through research, market development and communication activities.
This position reports to the Research Program Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of research projects supported through the research program activities of the Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission (Sask Wheat). This is a 6-month contracted position (37.5 hours per week) with the potential of becoming permanent; some travel may be required. This is not a remote position and requires in-office presence.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Master’s in agriculture or related science program, with a strong background in plant breeding
- Significant knowledge of crop-based agriculture in western Canada
- Knowledge of agricultural research institutions and crop research funding programs
- Experience managing projects, research principles, and best practices
- Familiarity with legal contracts, budgets, and financial statements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Self-starter with strong planning and organizational skills

Key Responsibilities/Duties:
- Contribute to Sask Wheat’s role as a leading funder in wheat research
- Interact with researchers through the life cycle of projects including the development and submission of proposals and the subsequent project implementation, monitoring, and completion including reporting on research results
- Collaborate with funding agencies and partners to identify research priorities, review proposals, and develop co-funding agreements
- Support Sask Wheat’s financial and program reporting requirements, contract obligations, and communication and evaluation needs
The knowledge and skills required for the position will most likely have been obtained through a Master’s degree in agriculture or science with a strong background in plant breeding and significant knowledge of crop-based agriculture in western Canada and at least four years’ work experience in agriculture research or research project management.

Pay: $70,500.00-$102,500.00 per year
