Your role:
CBC North is looking for a dynamic people leader to lead CBC North’s award-winning team of journalists that create content in English and Indigenous languages.
In addition to being the journalistic leader in Whitehorse, you are responsible for the management of the people, resources and facilities at CBC Whitehorse.

Key Tasks:
- Provides strategically driven editorial leadership daily and on all station projects.
- Networks to build relationships with community leaders and groups.
- Ensures that all CBC policies and procedures are followed.
- Manage and oversee the work of the CBC North editorial team based in Whitehorse.
- Hire and support the development and training of staff with their journalism, content development, and leadership paths.
- Implement strategies that will broaden and grow new audiences on TV, Radio, Digital, and Social Media.
- Operationalize and execute CBC’s strategic priorities around diversity and inclusion.
- Work with the Senior Managing Director and finance personnel to ensure that the editorial teams have the budget and resources.
- Responsible for all editorial priorities, management of resources and facilities, human resources, including overall management and engagement of staff.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
- Inspirational leader who leads their team to create engaging visual relevant content.
- Comprehensive understanding of the three territories in the North and the unique regions.
- Experience reporting in northern remote communities and speaking an Indigenous language is an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to delegate tasks to team members effectively.
- Inclusive leadership mindset to increase the content and staff.
- A strong understanding of media trends and their implications for CBC North’s future.
- Deep understanding of journalism and creating programs that achieve audience engagement.
- Demonstrated journalistic rigor and programming expertise.
- Strong understanding of budgets, human resource policies, and collective agreements.
- Understanding of various forms of technology linking all of our northern locations.
- Creative ethos to develop and evaluate programs.
- Strategic and solution-minded to resolve circumstances as they arise.
- The ability to make decisions rapidly and frequently under pressure.
- Preferred: 5 years related industry experience with a relevant degree or equivalent education and experience.
- Travel: Approx 10% of time spent should involve travel to various locations outside the Yukon.
