Purpose of the Role:
The Synthetic Environment (SE) Technical Architect will provide support through the use of their knowledge-based and skills-based experience in network topologies for on-premise and cloud-based computing. They will also provide site IT Administration for the SE in support of Naval Material for the Royal Canadian Navy, focused on network infrastructure (primarily Cisco Layer2/Layer3) with a Windows Active Directories environment. The Technical Architect will provide knowledge and experience with hypervisors including Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere. The SE team supports other teams that provide multi-disciplinary engineering and technical services related to the River Class Destroyer (RCD) Naval Combat System. This work could also be conducted at the Land Based Test Facility (LBTF) to be located in Hartlen Point, NS. The candidate may also support other project areas as required, including Integrated Test Evaluation and Acceptance (ITEA), Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Performance Modelling and Simulation (M&S), and Land Based Test Capability activities. This is a full-time, permanent position with a requirement for regular work both in-office and onboard RCN ships.

Key Responsibilities:
IT Administration: Part of the SE team for managing technical resources for a combination of hardware and software activities to support Naval Combat Systems on the RCD project.
Verification & Validation (V&V): Executing V&V activities for systems, software, and hardware; evaluating test plans, procedures, scenarios, and results; ensuring traceability and meeting verification criteria; monitoring test activities; and identifying, documenting, and mitigating risks and anomalies.
Technical Documentation: Reviewing technical documentation such as system requirements specifications, interface control documents, system design descriptions, hazard analysis reports, and equipment installation plans.
Analysis and Reporting: Analyzing test results, conducting evaluation and assurance activities, and generating IV&V plans, procedures, and reports. Documenting V&V activities defects or anomalies, identifying risk and recommending mitigation strategies.
Support to Client: Maintaining positive, friendly, collaborative relationships with team members, and internal and external stakeholders. Liaison with subject matter experts, DND customers and suppliers.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
Mandatory: Must obtain a Government of Canada security clearance, which necessitates Canadian citizenship and a minimum of 10 years of continuous residence in Canada.
Mandatory: Engineering technologist diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or computer science, or candidates with equivalent military experience supporting the Royal Canadian Navy in combat system engineering.
Desirable: 10 years of significant and recent experience in a related field, including familiarity with System, Software and Hardware Verification & Validation techniques and processes.
Mandatory: Skilled in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels (both in-person and electronically) with peers, supervisors, and clients. Capable of drafting reports, technical correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Desirable: Proficiency in software configuration control, systems engineering lifecycle, requirements management tools, and knowledge in simulation, stimulation, and analysis tools.
