The Opportunity
Reporting to General Counsel, the Paralegal will assist the Legal Department of the Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA) by providing support in document preparation, contract management, regulatory compliance, litigation, and high-level administrative tasks such as meetings coordination, minute taking and preparation for Board meetings. Handling sensitive and privileged legal matters, this role will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of legal and governance operations within WAA.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in interpreting aviation laws, regulations, and compliance standards.
- Assist in interpreting corporate legal requirements.
- Review of broad legal compliance related to real estate matters, environmental regulations, and other government requirements.
- Draft and review of legal documents, including contracts, leases, and correspondence.
- Organize, review, and maintain legal files and documents including corporate files.
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements related to airport operations and compliance with government requirements.
- Reviews and provides analysis and recommendations to human resources regarding Collective Agreement interpretations and language proposals for Collective Bargaining.
- Provide litigation support by gathering relevant documentation, preparing case summaries, and managing deadlines.
- Assist with handling claims, disputes, and lawsuits involving the Winnipeg Airports Authority.
- Organize document review and support with affidavits.
- Attend high-level meetings, including Board meetings, and accurately record minutes. Ensure timely distribution of minutes to relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate and schedule meetings. Prepare agendas and ensure all necessary documentation is available before meetings.
- Draft and manage internal and external communications, including meeting summaries.
- Maintain an organized filing system for legal and administrative documents. Ensure proper filing of minutes, contracts, and official records including corporate records.
- Prepare regular reports and summaries for senior management and general counsel on ongoing legal and administrative matters.
Selection Criteria include:
- 7-10 years' legal related experience in corporate/commercial transactions or similar.
- Legal Assistant Diploma or Paralegal Certificate from ON or BC.
- Strong legal research and document management abilities.
- Proficiency in managing contracts, corporate filings, and legal documentation.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with a variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high-level of autonomy.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Flexibility and willingness to take on additional or new responsibilities.
