Overview

The Mechanical Engineer III is responsible for designing and developing robust and innovative medical devices and equipment to support the commercialization of company-developed products. Responsibilities include cost estimation, design, verification, and validation. Device and equipment design includes active and passive electromechanical structures and mechanisms with various degrees of freedom.

Responsibilities

  1. Research design options and perform experiments to determine potential design feasibility.
  2. Develop and test new manufacturing processes.
  3. Work closely with electrical and software engineers, designing with a system-wide perspective.
  4. Interact with global and internal design and manufacturing resources to design for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  5. Specify and manage tool development.
  6. Create and release product requirements, design specifications, and design descriptions for assigned projects, as required by applicable medical device standards and internal procedures.
  7. Follow all policies, procedures, and standards for engineering documentation to ensure compliance with corporate document management policy.
  8. Review product documentation for accuracy, including documentation intended for customer use.
  9. Participate in all designing, prototyping, testing, and qualification of mechanical designs for high-reliability and high-performance medical devices.
  10. Participate in or support risk assessment, design reviews, pre-production, pilot production, testing, and regulatory submission.
  11. Support production activities and resolve issues quickly.
  12. Evaluate product non-conformances and recommend design modifications through advanced analytical and problem-solving techniques.
  13. Support the development of intellectual property.

Qualifications

  1. 5+ years of technical product or mechanical device design and manufacturing experience.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required; Master’s preferred.
  3. P.Eng from the EGBC preferred; ability and willingness to obtain a P.Eng license required.
  4. Excellent knowledge of and ability to use SolidWorks and SolidWorks add-ins.
  5. Experience in all areas of design, prototyping, testing, and qualification.
  6. Experience with plastic injection mold tool design including insert molding and over-molding.
  7. Proven skills in developing projects in a medical device R&D department.
  8. Ability to define project goals and delivery dates to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Experience in a technical team-focused workplace.
  10. Ability to make independent judgments using sound engineering principles and techniques.
  11. Ability to write concisely and accurately with meticulous attention to detail and clarity.

* For applicants without an Engineer in Training or a Professional Engineer license, an alternative title will be used until a license is obtained.
