Job description

The Abby Community School Society is looking for fun and motivated individuals to join their instructing team. We are looking for program instructors who will lead Art Programs for children & youth. This posting is for an Art Instructor.

About ACSS - What is a community school?

It is a designated school facility that is open beyond the traditional school schedule to offer a variety of community learning and recreational opportunities to people of all ages. Community schools are multi-service facilities working in partnership with other community agencies, organizations and individuals to improve the quality of life in the community. Our Community school will be running classes out of schools in Abbotsford.

Please note: Successful hires are required to work at any of the schools that are listed above.

To enrich the lives of the people in our community by offering a wide range of cultural, recreational, and educational programs and opportunities.

We are currently hiring for an After School Program Instructor and an Evening Instructor. Successful candidates will be required to work 2-hour shifts from 2:15pm - 4:15pm or 2:45pm - 4:45pm (afternoons) and from 5:45pm - 7:45pm or 6:00pm - 8:00pm (evenings).

Applicants will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check. Current First Aid is an asset. Compensation is based on experience and programs that are being led, starting at $19 per hour.

Art Instructor Responsibilities:

  • Planning lessons on art and art history in accordance with the Schools and/or Principals request for specific learning objectives.
  • Preparing the classroom by gathering and setting up equipment.
  • Developing students' drawing, coloring, and painting techniques.
  • Providing instruction on the use of media such as graphite and charcoal pencils, as well as oil, acrylic, and watercolor paint.
  • Teaching students about art history.
  • Communicating weekly with the Program Coordinator on program & student feedback.
  • Ensuring that the classroom is clean after each lesson.
  • Monitoring inventory and sourcing art supplies, as needed.

Art Instructor Requirements:

  • Attending University currently or has a Bachelor's degree in fine arts with teaching qualification, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience as an art teacher.
  • Demonstrated excellence in a variety of art techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to supervise group work.
  • Outstanding planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Supportive, flexible disposition.
  • Available to work during afterschool and evenings, depending on the school location.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $19.00 per hour
