Purpose of Role: Weir Marine Engineering, which operates the Naval Engineering Test Establishment for the Department of National Defence, has a requirement for an experienced IT Project Coordinator to lead complex initiatives to deliver new or upgraded IT capabilities for current and future ships of the Royal Canadian Navy. The IT Project Coordinator works closely with the client(s) and with the internal technical specialists to ensure that the capability is developed and delivered in accordance with scope, schedule and cost constraints, as well as in accordance with client and internal engineering and change processes. This role is not hands-on, but it requires a strong technical background, including the ability to interact with the technical project team members, chair technical discussions, make decisions on technical data, and occasionally personally address technical work packages. This is a permanent, full-time, hybrid position based in LaSalle QC, Halifax NS or Victoria BC. Some work must be performed on-site, but most of the work can be performed either remotely or on-site, at your choice.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management/Coordination: Create plans for the work, lead the initiative, use WME’s Cost and Schedule Performance Management System to track scope and costs, monitor risks and provide progress reports to stakeholders;
Stakeholder Engagement: Interact with clients and business/technical stakeholders to understand, extract and develop project requirements (functional, operational, performance, security, etc.). Hold internal and external review, coordination and progress meetings, acting as a facilitator amongst assigned technical resources, including preparing presentation material and producing Records of Discussion;
Technical Engagement: Document requirements, work with Functional Team Leaders to develop technical work packages to be assigned to technical resources, prepare change submissions, contribute to technical design documents when applicable, review and consolidate technical documentation prepared by internal Subject Matter Experts, and ensure that all project documentation aligns with the group’s System Development Life Cycle process and templates;

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
Good knowledge of project management practices and tools gained through practical work experience that is complemented by demonstrated technical work experience in the field of IT, in areas such as information systems (i.e. client server/back end compute, storage, endpoints) and networking technologies;
Ability to work to tight timelines, take on additional responsibilities, accept and introduce change in a positive manner, handle concurrent assignments, and work cooperatively and productively with others to achieve results;
Communication and complementary skills such as:
Demonstrated experience working well with customers of varying levels of technical expertise;
Extremely diligent, an excellent communicator and facilitator, strong leadership skills and can write very well in English;
Fast learner, proactive, responsive, self-driven, excellent organizational skills, takes ownership and demonstrates pride in their work, very good attention to detail, and can work autonomously;
ITIL and service management knowledge is desirable;
Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) or the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) would be an asset;
Canadian citizenship, with 10 or more years residing in Canada with no periods longer than six continuous months out of country, is absolutely necessary as part of the requirements to obtain a government security clearance to the minimum level of Secret.
