The Role. Under the direction and guidance of a Journeyman Roofer, over the course of four years, our Apprentices learn through a combination of on-the-job training and mentoring, as well as short 6 week in-class sessions at a registered trade school. Lynnwood invests in our employees by building skills and experiences in increasingly complex and diverse roofing tasks and assignments. In the work terms with Lynnwood, employees are paid competitively as apprentices in accordance with the Alberta Roofer Trade Regulation. While attending school, employees are eligible for federal Employment Insurance. At the completion of the apprenticeship program, employees are eligible for government grants.

Examples of the Opportunities to Develop On-The-Job Skills and Experiences

  • Repairing and building various commercial roofing systems, including “green” and traditional roofing, shingles, metal roofing.
  • Insulating, waterproofing and damp-proofing roofs.
  • Estimating and broader roofing industry aspects.

  • The ability to lift up to 110 lbs (50 kgs) with assistance as needed and 20 lbs (10 kgs) consistently.

Transferable Skills. Red Seal certificate upon completion of the apprenticeship program. Numeracy skills, including measuring the length, width, and height of surfaces for accurate layout and completion of work, use of drawings to calculate material requirements. Coming up with solutions to spatial and job site or project challenges. Critical thinking skills to judge the professional completion of work.

Wages and Benefits – $24.38/hour to $35.63/hour, overtime eligible, employee group benefits, vacation pay, general holiday pay
