Position Purpose

About the Opportunity:

In Trading and Supply, we are interested in attracting people to our business who share our core values of honesty, integrity, and respect for others. We also want those who can build on our business vision, are prepared to accept accountability, and can achieve great results through teamwork.

As a Natural Gas Scheduler, you’ll be part of the North America Gas Scheduling team. In this front office position, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of Shell Energy Americas (SEAm) natural gas activities. With primary responsibilities in Canada, but with the potential for additional Mid-West US activities, you will be working intimately with trading staff to optimize transport and storage assets while minimizing profit leakage.

We do this by coordinating all aspects of the post-deal trading operations activity for our gas trading teams by ensuring that all obligations within the contracts are met and carried out professionally. Being part of an international team, with half in Calgary and the other half in Houston, you will provide scheduling and operations support to both the Canadian and Mid-West US trade desks, including the upcoming LNG Canada project. SEAm operations currently have a weekend scheduling team that provides primary weekend coverage.

Accountabilities:

  • Report physical pipeline positions to trading groups.
  • Optimize the transport and delivery requirements to monetize value for the trade desk through accurate and timely positions, nominations, and internal system pathing.
  • Monitor and account for pipeline operational information, providing short-term opportunities to trading due to pipeline constraints and operations.
  • Manage and balance pipeline and customer accounts.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all contractual, license, and regulatory requirements.
  • Understand the various balancing mechanisms in use across North America regarding imbalance tolerances and the financial cash-out risks for shippers and traders.
  • Input operational information daily into the internal gas management system (Endur) for accurate P&L and a clean handoff at month-end.
  • Maintain trusted partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide backup support to other Commercial Operators within own team and across NA teams.
  • Perform monthly close activities on all pipelines and document the top 10 pipelines to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Work with limited supervision to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Learn and support Shell Energy North America (Canada)’s developing LNGC business.
  • Provide vacation coverage for weekend scheduler and after hours on a rotational basis, as well as being on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Primary working hours are 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
  • During LNGC operations, primary working hours will be split between two shifts: 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 12:00 AM, with on-call support until 02:00 AM.
  • During evening shift coverage, provide real-time communication and problem-solving with internal stakeholders of the Value Chain.

Skills & Requirements:

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than the current employer.
  • Must have a diploma or degree in Business Engineering or any other related field.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in Natural Gas scheduling and operations.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for Natural Gas Scheduling.
  • Experienced user of IT systems and knowledgeable on IT landscapes.
  • Proven track record of performance and delivery.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing internal and external requirements.
  • Advanced Excel user with knowledge of formulas, look-ups, linking, pivot tables, and macros.
  • Experience in scheduling AECO/Westcoast/TCPL/Union is an advantage.
  • Ability to analyze market information, communicate, and act on trading implications.

If you don’t see yourself fully reflected in every job requirement listed in the posting above, we still encourage you to reach out and apply. Research has shown that women from under-represented groups often only apply when they feel 100% qualified. We are committed to creating a more equitable, inclusive, and diverse company and we strongly encourage applicants of all genders, ages, ethnicities, cultures, abilities, orientations, and life experiences to apply.
