Software Engineer

Contributes to the overall success of the Global Payment Technology globally by designing, developing, and supporting applications using Shell Scripting, Java technologies (e.g. SpringBoot, Hibernate, JPA, etc.) to support business requirements for payment processing systems.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

1. Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
2. Have good programming skill set on Shell Scripting, Java technologies (e.g. SpringBoot, Hibernate, JMS, etc.), SQL/ESQL.
3. Knowledge on using Unix, AIX, Windows Operating systems.
4. Knowledge on backend web services, SOAP and communication protocols (SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, AS2, Connect Direct).
5. Conduct testing of new software releases to ensure successful implementation with no impact to existing code base.
6. Ensure quality of the solutions are robust, scalable and efficient to meet the needs of the business.
7. Ability to learn new technology and do production support during business hours and off hours pager duty at least one week every month.
8. Monitor system performance, troubleshooting and fixing errors.
9. Work in a cross-functional Agile team to deliver core business and regulatory solutions.
10. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
11. Actively pursue effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles.
12. Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

1. Good programming skill set on Shell Scripting, Java technologies (e.g. SpringBoot, Hibernate, JMS, etc.), SQL/ESQL.
2. Knowledge on using Unix, AIX, Windows server Operating systems.
3. Knowledge on backend web services, SOAP and communication protocols (SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, AS2, Connect Direct).
4. Must have knowledge of different data formats like JSON, XML.
5. Must be open to do production support and be ready to carry pager for off-hours support for at least one week in a month.
6. 2+ years of experience in developing and supporting custom software with Java, Shell Scripts, SQL/ESQL.
